Hi Everybody
I have decided I am going to release the Laperouse tramway even thought it is only 80% completed. All the trackwork is in and alot of scenery. I will of course release the final route when its finished. What I have to do now is to work out how im going to get the file size down.
Sorry for taking so long with this project, I hope you enjoy the route. I should have it ready for download within the next 2 weeks. Could be less depending on how long it takes to prepare it for uploading.

I have also been working on some other tramway projects. I have done some work on some road sections and a tramdepot. Here is a screenshot of my latest tram.
Good to see the traction forum up!!

Excellent!

say, Joseph, I like the road with the curbside and sidewalk. A very much needed item. The car is great! My wife and I rode a similar car just about a month ago in Oregon, at the OERHS museum. It needs paint real bad! But alot of fun to ride!

Thanks!

Did I say it would be ready in 2 weeks? Well I think it will be much less than that. In fact I have a fully packaged file ready for a quick test then release in a few days time.

The file is about 14mb. Unfortunatly this version of the route needs about 117mb of hard drive space. I hope to alias many files in the future releases.

The sidewalk, roadway and poles in the screenshots are all 1 object. I have made these all combined to reduce the object count in my new route.

kind regards
Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Excellent as usual. La Perouse will be eagerly awaited by traction fans. The attention to detail in your cars and scenery is outstanding. I'm looking forward to giving that L/P a belt. Another happy day for traction fans...

I'm glad that I looked in here today because that's great news! Now I'll have somewhere to run that awesome trolley besides the Tokyo route! <g>

And what you've done with the sidewalk-roadway-pole combinations sounds really slick! Very creative!

Thanks for the update!

Joe,
Good looking route. Looks as though it will be terrific when completed.
When will you make the D class tram available, as the activity files call for it.

My computer specs are in my profile.

For those of you who have had a chance to test the route, how has it run on your system? Is framerate a problem? Also were there any problems installing the route? This is the first route I have released so im just wondering if I have done everything right.

Joe,
I should have mentioned in my earlier post, that I was running 48 to 55 FPS. Install was no problem as the instuctions were well written & easy to follow. You did not leave anything up to conjecture.
I substituted the R Class tram for the D tram, until it's available.

My computer specs are in my profile.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-20-02 AT 08:14PM (EDT)[p]Great looking route, Joe! Had no problem with the installation, your instructions were pretty straight foward. I found "winter" does not work at all, got some errors, but then I noticed the palm trees and figured there's no snowy winter season in Sydney!

I hope when you do up the complete system you make an upgrade for those of us that have this version so we won't need to download everything all over. One problem, there is no warning on some of the turn offs that the tracks are ending if you make the switch off.

Thanks for a lovely tram route!

Regards,
Rich

I'm DL'g it right now. This'll be the first route I've downloaded since PO&N5. It looks real sweet in your screenshots, so, I'm doing it. I'll let you know if there are any problems.

Thanks, Joseph.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-21-02 AT 02:00AM (EDT)[p]Hi Joseph!

Your route was great, and there was no problem with runing it or to install it.
Just the activitie problem! But i donīt like to see so many tracks not going anyware.
Are all tracks laid (i know the route is not finish)?
Are you going to make more lines?

Thanks for a very nice route!

Played it only once so far, and when I exited the activity I would get the good ol' send/don't send thingy, followed by a lockup. Followed the install instructions to the letter...oh well.

Apart from that, this is a great route! :D

Hi
The Sydney tram system was extremly large and this route even though its was the second longest in sydney is only a small fraction of the system. Therefore there is alot of lines turning off from the mainline to Laperouse. Though they may seem like they turn off and lead no where, once complete, the scenery should suggest they lead to another destination if you know what i mean.
I thought it would be better that i concentrate on the Laperouse line so i can detail it as accuratly as I possibly can with all available photos and film available.

I will me making more lines but they may not be part of this route.

kind regards
Joseph

It is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have belted your R class up and down a few times (like about 10,000) but, there are a few points.

1. The track at La Perouse should NOT cross the road, the loop should go on the shelter side.
2. I find that switching a lot of the points, causes MSTS (MicroSoft Tram Simulator <hehe>) to crash. Do other people have this problem?
3. The tracks at 'The Quay' (Australian term) are not complete and cause a derail.

Other than thet, nothing major, but see my e-mail.

Kind Regards,

Ben

Hi Ben
Im glad you like the route and thankyou for the comments.
When I first modelled the loop at La Perouse terminus, I had the road on the outside of the loop. After doing alot of research, mainly in the archives in the city, I have collected numerouse photos and segments of film to suggest that road actually crossed the tracks. Therefore I did a complete remodel of the terminal site. I have a photo attached that shows the terminus with roadway crossing the loop. The photo actually predates the era in which the trainsim route dipicts though its the only photo I can find at this moment. The more recent waiting shed is on the right of the roadway inside the loop which is the shed modelled in the sim.

The issue about switching the points and causing the game to crash relates to a bug in the sim. MSTS doesnt support circular track layouts or continuous running circuits. The offending siding that causes the crash probably forms a continuous run circuit when the points are changed. Alot of sidings have yet to be tested and therefore these will be found.
This also explains why the track is broken at circular quay terminus. Think about it, there are balloon loops at each end of the line. If there were no breaks in the lines then it would become a continuos circuit. I think MSTS looks for an ending point on every path. If there is a continuos circuit then the ending point would be infinate and therefore the game crashes.

Kind regards
Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Firstly, the info about the loop mightn't be all that good, do you know if the loop was moved after 1958? My sources say that the loop was as I mentioned at some stage AFTER 1958.

Secondly, my main troubles with points are at the DEPOT and at 'THE QUAY'.

Thirdly, I made the tracks join at 'The Quay', and it still runs, the best thing is, I can set a person going, and they just keep going round. This modification does not seem to affect the game.
If you want, I'll send you the files that I have changed, you just need to tell me what files they are.

You could thank me by providing the files which are missing from the route.

Kind Regards,

Ben

Hi,

Yes it is me again!
I know I have a lot to say.

Joseph, what you should do, is make them one at a time, but have them as one. This will mean, you could drive a tram to Bondi, the go to say La Perouse. This would be very very good, and mean, that we could have a LOT more fun.
I found that i'm not great at route building, but if you were to go at it this way, I would be more then happy to help you where ever I could.

Kind Regards,

Ben

I want to know what was the longest line? Was it the one out to Rdye or something?

Anyway, I have done tonnes of work on your route, and I am now working on making the cars whole, when they bank up at a crossing, they just drive straight into the next one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Joseph,

I have got a upload ready which fixes the tracks at Circular Quay, and just need to ask your permission to upload it. So, can I upload it? It is just the track fix at 'The Quay', and a few little other things.

Might take this time to ask a few other things.
Why did you make the 38's engine and tender un-coupleable?
thats all,

Ben

Hi Joseph,
Have been following some of your other work with Sydney Trams(screne savers),but this is by far the best.
I downloaded your route as I an both interested in the Sydney Tramway system as a whole and I also model trans in H.O. and G scale as well as I am building a 2' Scale model of a Sydney 'K'class tramcar.
Your route is fantastic, and when finished will be even better.I have several friends in the 'Sydney Tramway Museum' who are amazed at how real it is.
I can't find anything missing, and at the controls of your R class you almost believe you are driving the tram.
Congradulations on a top effort.
I am also looking forward to giving that LP 154 a bit of a run, or even a set of coupled cars would be good.
I personal prefer the older cars.
Any help with information or details you require please don't hesitate to ask.If I can't help I will find the info for you.
I also like the Dowling street depot you have done and look for to seeing this finished and been able to start and finish activities at this depot.
I have also been for the run up to Randwick depot and again look forward to being able to use this also.
Keep up the good work.
Regards
Greg
