Here is a screen shot of SN's GE 650 class 1000hp dual current steeple cabs. These operated from about 1923 to the end of the elctric freight operations. Number 651 was scrapped in march 1957, followed by 650 2 months later when most of the line was converted to diesel. The other 3 worked the only remaining electric part of the route, Marysville - Yuba City, until 1965. The other 3 went to museums. Number 653 is now at the Orange Empire Railway Museum and numbers 652(which was used for parts in the last part of her life) and 654 went to the California Railway Museum at Rio Vista Junction.

wa-Hay! Thanks, Erik! Now I don't have to build one! ;-) Seriously, tho, I'm glad you're tackling this important addition. I am looking for the general dimensions of the ALCO-GE for a 600 volt Portland version in the future. Where can I obtain dimensioned plans for this machine, if you don't mind my asking?

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress, keep posting!

Thanks again,

Cheers!
Tim

Tim,

I do not have an answer for your question. However I went to the Western Railway Museum at Rio Vista Junction yesterday and rode the street cars. We did get quite a few cab and exterior photographs of the SN units because they have 2 there although one is used for parts(#652). The museum has a book store and a website. The book store is atleast half devoted to streetcars, steeple cabs, and trolleys.Their web site address is: http://www.wrm.org/
I am enclosing a few pics from our trip.
