Many thanks to 'tryagin' for the excellent explanation of the overhead arrangement at passing sidings. I thought you might be interested in the outcome of my attempt to duplicate this in MSTS. The MSTS version on the right - in case you can't tell :-). Followed by a shot of L&PS No 2 motoring along under the new overhead.

wacampbell,
WOW! I'm really impressed with your work! Did you make Motor No2? It and your overhead are exceptional. What size wire are you using? (I should ask first if you're using meteric or feet)I tried making some overhead for simple trolley using .015 size wire, but it's too thin and disappears real fast as you motor by. Your overhead is outstanding and I am glad to see the outcome, and glad to be of help!
And whats wierd, I was just thumbing through an October 1952 Railroad magazine and seen a pic of No.2 pulling cars 6 and 4 in St Thomas, Ont. Then I come here and see your post and there's N0.2 again!
Keep up the excellent work! And keep us posted!
Cheers!

Wow! Are you gonna "publish" that L&PS car, or just let the rest of us traction nuts whine?

Wow, that's looking great. Both the catenary and nr 2. Nice job. A nasty question: what's about the framerates?

I was surprised how little impact there is. I took some measurements before and after the overhead went up and I find it costs me only about 2 FPS.

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments.
The wire size is about 35mm. I had the same problem where the wire would disappear - this size seems to be a reasonable compromise between correctness and visibility. BTW, the catenary is all done with transparent panels 1M high by the length of the span. I haven't actually modelled individual wires. Also, last night, I moved all the catenary up to 7m and it looks a lot better.
Re L&PS No 2 - I did build it using 3D Canvas. Funny coincidence about the picture. My photo shows it at Yarmouth siding heading South into St Thomas - about 4 km to go ( 6 - 8 wks of construction I think ).

The model is far from ready for posting - ie no interior and the eng file needs work. I will provide a copy to anyone who is interested - please request via private message with your email address.
I am hoping as my skills improve that I will be able to contribute some models to the library. Thanks to the traction modellers in this forum who have set a very high standard of quality. I have learned a lot from the postings here.

Very nice looking wire! You might also be interested in this topic that I started regarding better looking catenary for MSTS:

Is it that hard to precisely position those wires above the track? I would imagine using the keyboard instead of the mouse to do the positioning is easier, but from my experience with the route editor it's still a PITA.
What do you think of the idea of incorporating the wires as part of the gantry shapes? This would make decent placement pretty much automatic if it was done correctly. Just throwing around some ideas :)

Could you give a copy of your L&PS skin? I worked on some L&PS cars at IRM and rode the one at Houlton. Have you created an L&PS route?
The pic is quite impressive.
