For this first session we will NOT be using a timetable. I will dictate Form 19 train orders to trains as though you were a station operator however! Have a pencil and pad ready....

Here's a sample of how it will go....

1) I'll call your train and any other affected trains and advise you to be ready to copy an order.

2) Orders will be dictated directly to you however they will be addressed as such: "TO C&E NO 1 AT SOUTH JOLIET" (C&E = Conductor and Engineer).

Here's a sample Form 19 Train Order... (If you have an old rulebook look up the section on the standard forms of train orders for the various texts and descriptions...)

WHAT YOU'LL HEAR

TRAIN ORDER NO 1

TO C&E TRAIN NO 1 AT SOUTH JOLIET
TO C&E TRAIN NO 28 AT RIDGELY

TRAIN NO 1 ENG 101A MEET TRAIN NO 28 ENG 812A AT LINCOLN.

BWG BY JRD

After you hear the DS initial the order the operators have to read back the order exactly as it is dictated to the DS. Any corrections to each read-back are given after each read-back. When all operators are finished reading back the order the DS will respond with "ORDER NO 1 COMPLETE AT 1201 twelve naught one AM JRD"

Each operator responds with the same language to confirm copying the COMPLETE time. The order is NOT in effect until it is made COMPLETE by the DS.

We won't mess with clearance cards this session either.... One thing at a time! <G>

Standard Train Order forms and abbreviations are found in Rules 201 through 223 in most pre-1970 RR rulebooks. You will probably be able to find the forms on the web with a Google search....

The forms you can expect to hear mostly will be:

A. Fixing meeting points for Opposing Trains.
B. Directing a train to pass or run ahead of another train.
F. For sections (1st 97, 2nd 97, etc.)
G. Extra trains
H. Work extras
J. Holding Order
K. Annulling a schedule or section
L. Annulling an order
P. Superseding an order or a part of an order
X. Reduce Speed Order (numbered beginning with 501 and may remain in effect beyond the date issued! Any new session would have these orders re-dictated at the outset...)

So, there you have it!

Let's play on the GM&O Monday evening!
