An extension of the Red Line to the Airport has recieved the final OK and funding from the NVTA board. Aviation station will now be renamed because it is no longer the link to the airport. Aviation will now be called 'Friendship' in honor of the adjacent Public Park and Visual Arts Plaza, and two new stations will be opened: Museum and Nearbug Airport. The airport station will be located within the Domestic terminal, which is approximately a ten minute walk from the International terminal. Complimentary Redcap service is available for passengers with luggage traveling between the two terminals.
Features of the new stations: Museum will be elevated, adjacent to the Museum of rail history. The museum's north wall borders the SVC ROW.
The line will then drop to grade and go through an industrial area before rising back up onto an elevated structure and entering the terminal building at speed, running between a wall and a moving pedestrian walkway, with floor-to-ceiling high-strength tempered glass between the walkway and the tracks. The trains will then slow as the line splits into three tracks for the platforms. The centre track will allow boarding from either side and serves as a short-term storage/layup track as there is no stub track beyond the station.
Any comments/questions/whatever, feel free to post, email, or PM and ask! :)
