Okay Guys! Nels is receptive to the idea of adding BVE file
areas to train-sim.com but he needs your help. First all, no
one has uploaded any files to train-sim.com for BVE.

The format for uploading files should be like this...

Myproject.zip - containing:

BVEFile.exe (or BVEFile.Zip)in Self-extracting .RAR, .Zip format or
a plain .zip or .rar file. - the actual BVE add-on.

BVEFile.jpg - a screenshot or two.
File_id.diz - text file with file description
readme.txt - text file with documention.

Those of you that don't have accounts on train-sim.com would have
to register to upload, but it is free.

I remember xxx.jpg was a full size screenshot. xxx.gif is a reduced version. But you can just submit one full size version and I think the library(or Nels) resizes it.

I am not a premium member so usually when downloading MSTS stuff. I have to press F5 then Enter 30+ times. In peak times, you might have to press 50+ times.

SWEET! I'll have to get mine packaged up properly soon.

It'll be nice to have it available somewhere without bandwidth problems like my geocities page has.

Not in the sense that you'd never be able to download, only in
the sense of having an available node to log into. I've been
a member of Flightsim.com since it opened and I've never not been
able to download a file that was there. I've always gotten great
kps rates too, considering I'm on a 56.6k dialup. Getting a free
node is actually easier than flightsim.com too.

If this goes ahead and I run out of webspace on my BVE site then I'll have to think about putting my files here.

I'm a paying member of flightsim.com but I cannot afford to splash out on another account for here (not due to the fact that its too expensive, which it ISNT! But to the fact that I dont have money at the moment.) Its a long shot but maybe Nels could make the first class membership applicable to both sites. Just a though ;)

I'm a paid member of flightsim.com too, trust me it's 100% easier
to get onto Train-sim.com. If you want, you can always email Nels
and see if he'd grandfather your account.

well, since BVE files are a lot smaller than MSTS files, it might be easier to get on to the site for them.

Have thought about doing the same as the japs and using that new arciver instead?, had a quick go with it and it seems ok.

It's not compatible with the file area software though.

Can I upload my ASL line for BVE here? If so, where? My ASL installation download file is worth 10.8MB

You are wrong. Usually MSTS trains are only 1MB or less. Unless it includes its own cabview and sounds.

Just as a follow-up:

If you want to learn years of collective wisdom on how best to package and upload your file, go and read the developer's tips page here:

http://www.flightsim.com/dev-tips.htm

This also has the links to the two methods available for uploading.

Please note that contrary to one of the other messages, it is NOT necessary to be logged in to upload files.
