hi guys has anybody tried to use animated gif files in BVE for markers? (64 x 64 pixels though)
If we could do that it would start a new marker system!
And if they could then be used in the actual route it would bring repeated animation to BVE!! (think of the possiblities! Moving trains, people etc!)

I could be being a moron here, but is BVE written in Visual Basic??
If so, then I don't think it's possible to include Animated GIFs... I've used them in the past in Visual Basic applications and it's a total nightmare, you have to manually animate between static GIF frames in the application code with timers, etc. Either that or use WebBrowser controls and HTML code which is not ideal.....
But Mackoy could have coded animated GIF support into BVE *somehow*.
If it is not written in VB ignore this!

Yes your right about being done in VB. And Yes You Can't! have animated gif. If we could they would be rain, snow, moving wipers and semaphors. We already beat this one to death on the old Crotrainz Forum. (Why I would not mind to be able to see the old threads)

I was not a member of that forum and I did not check it regularly until the begining of this year (and even then it was once a week?)
So i wouldn't know what was said.

There must be a way! Maybe bve should be re-written in another coding style but made to be exactly the same as the old one?

Lol, I really doubt that this would be possible. And just as a reminder, routes have been made with a "falling snow/rain" effect. Check out Anthony Bowdens X-City line.

Then the signals would also flash.

Bob, what about Smacker format? Smacker has been around a long
time to imbed video into games. Simcopter Drive-ins use Smacker
at 32x32.

If you have and have driven the Piccadilly Line for BVE, you'll find that Tom has managed to make some of his markers appear to be animated. It's only a clever trick but it might suffice for what you want.
Also, I don't think it's within the copyright of the program to alter it. Smacker is an interesing idea though.

It's only different markers being displayed.

That's what I mean when I say it's only a clever trick.

I have done all that in my DLR route, change markers every 10-25m.
never mind, i just wanted to have some moving trains, c2c overtaking the DLR, I have done animated things in BVE using the "dissappearing techniques" examples can be found in my DLR route when relased....

I can only remember the signal using the BVE 25m unloading feature.

I think if you put an animated GIF into BVE, it will only show the first frame of the animation.

That's right.

what does it do?

If you put an animated .gif either as a marker/panel/object .bmp file, etc, it will only display the first frame of the animation.
