For all that I have read here about this game, I wonder if it is as good as all the hype from the developers. I am inclined to believe from the lack of any discussion about the game that it must really be a DOG from GOD... Like one other user has posted. What is it all about? I would expect to get a lot for a $50 game. The silence here says "Don't buy it."..

Overall Im disappointed with it....
There arent enough diesel options...steam is OK for some, but you are stuck with either F3s, GP7s, FP45s or DD40Xs as opposed to 20-30 steam engines....RRT2 had better options.
Map editing....RRT2 let you modify existing scenario maps. This one forces you to start more or less from scratch and to download DEM data...NO THANKS......If Im gonna do all that I may as well create a MSTS route(which Im thinking about).
This may irk some, but there are too many scenarios outside North America.....Im sure its meant to sell games overseas, but to me personally its a waste of hard drive space because I have no interest in railroading outside the US & Canada.
Too much emphasis on 19th & early 20th century railroading....there is only 1 US scenario set after 1960.
The animation and 3d effects are nice, the economy is more robust and the automatic traffic manager for trains is a nice touch, but overall, I'd have passed if I knew all this before.

You've also got the SD90Mac and AMD103 (named otherwise due to copyright issues) and 4 European Desiels.

Nope. You can modify any map in the game JUST like RT2. HOWEVER, unlike RT2 there is a DEM data WORLD MAP you can use to take a snap shot of any spot on Earth to make a map from. This IS in the released game.

This honestly seems a bit silly... just erase them from your HD.

No. You can also play most stand alone maps at ANY date just by adjusting the slider. Also, the editor will let you set the date of ANY map in the game just by turning off the check box that says Campaign, put in the date you want to play it as and save it with a name of your choice.

Not arguing your decision just the facts.
No prob.....
I must disagree however......most of the US scenarios Ive played have a 10-15 yr range on the start date.....the only one I found that gave more leeway was the TX high speed rail scenario.
Maybe I missed a couple of diesels...but the point is there aren't enough diesel choices in light of the overwhelming number of steam engines.
I went into the map editor and didn't see the option to mod any existing maps.....I could have missed it, but I looked all over.
I have not closely examined the file structure, so I don't know if you can erase stuff you don't want or not. If you can, that's great and I retract my comment, but, my opinions are from the viewpoint of the average gamer....not someone who sits down and starts hacking the game the minute the cellophane comes off the box.
If you like the game, great....I found it a bit lacking for my tastes.
