Do you think it is possible that there will be a RRT4? Or do you think RRT3 is it the end of the line?

I think so, but probaly not until they've finishish the RRT3.

I sure hope it includes the Scotsman, if it dosen't, It might include a C38 class Pacific known as 3801!

As slow as they are working on the 1.04 patch, I wouldn't look for RRT4 for at least 5 years, if then.

The 1.04 patch is out.

See my Home Page for links

Some neat new scenarios.

I would like to see RRT4 - after the disaster that is Transport Giant I put my faith in PopTop (and Chris Sawyer, with Locomotion) to look after our transport strategy needs.

They said it would have a modeling tool to make new locos well I can not find it nor the paint program that the new patch said it had.

Posting to an old topic here, but had to share what i know...

RRt4 is not going to be called RRT4 anymore, but it is supposed to be called "Sid Meier's Trains." This will be very interesting since he did the original Railroad Tycoon, and has a history of making some pretty imnpressive games. I Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Actually it's called Sid Meier's Railroads and is due out this October.
You can read a lot more about it at the following link, as well as some comments from Dennis Shirk, of Firaxis Games.

It is supposed to be more of a throwback to the original, with graphics closer to the third incarnation. I am encouraged by the inclusion of signal bridges (I miss being able to run the whole railroad from the big view like a dispatcher). The economics are supposed to be improved, with better competing railways trying to best you (which you can also take over or they can take you over).

I am a little disturbed by one statement on Firaxis site that says facilities, including stations, will be automatically built as needed, as will bridges and tunnels. That just seems to take the guts out of the game.

You are supposed to have access to 30 locomotives as the game progresses. One review says you can design your own locomotives too. The official review just says you can paint them in your own scheme.

It is also supposed to be less like a real railroad and more like a model railroad.

I will be interested to see how it turns out.

From what I've seen of it so far, it looks more like a kids game than a strategy game.

No tenders on steam engines. It looks like they measure the distance between cities in yards instead of miles, which is somewhat confirmed by Firaxis in a statement made that hinted the maps will be much smaller.

I believe I'll wait for end user reviews before I buy this version.

Well when RRT3 came out I played it only a few times then basically abandoned it. I am a huge fan of RRT2 and the original but the third was basically too dynamic and hard to build for ecomony. The "roller coaster" look of the trains and track was a turn off aswell. After finding and ad in this months issues of "Trains" magazine, I checked out the site for Sid Meiers Railroads and I have to say that so far I am not impressed. I seems to be just a repolished version of RRT3 with the same basic look, for example the "roller coaster" extremely unrealistic track layout. This didn't work for the last game! I am not too sure of this "Model Railroad" approach either. If your stations and sidings just "sprout" automatically then what is it that you actually do in this game? I think it will price at $39.99. I think RRT3 was $59.99 and it sucked so I will be in no rush to get this one, I hope I am wrong.

Hi I found some video of the game posted on another site - links below...

The gameplay and interface does look simple but does that mean it's a kids game? Not necesarilyl - look at games like Katamari.

I have it. Yes, it is a bit cartoonish, but that is not why I bought it. I like the type of game and that is what I got it for. If I want trains, I always have MSTS.

Want to read some of the comments from folks that bought it and are trying to figure it out?
It's not pretty folks. :-(
