Hello All,

Just received RRT3 a few weeks and have been enjoying it. I was wondering. In one game I have a lot of midwest grain and corn farms. If I designate one station, can I develop a "local" train who simply rounds up the cars and brings them to that central station. Then an additional set of trains would deliver to Dairys and large cities. Does this method work?

I was hoping to then be able to "stage" other products in cities, like drop off unprocessed milk at a large city to then be taken by a long ditance train to another city to be processed.

Thanks,

You could do this in the original railroad tycoon, if you sent goods to a station that didnt accept them, they would show up as supplied (but you wonlt make anything on them). Railroad tycoon 2 does not have this nice feature, and I dont have Railroad tycoon 3 so no help.

your train will only pick up cars and take them to the destination station if it will make a profit. I know what you are trying to do. If you have some loads you want to store somewhere, that location has to demand them or you train won't go there. I had the scenario where I had about 3 stations that collected grain. I had to make sure that the first stop was where the corn was the cheapest, pick up those loads and go to the next station. The loads you just had where actually cashed in there and then you pick them up again with the additional loads that were already there - and so on. I could repeat this for about 3 to 4 stations to get my up to full length. The only problem is every time you cash in corn at that location the price of the product goes down. What happens is the corn has to be progressively more expensive every stop you make if you want to collect it, but when the price goes down at a middle station the train won't go there to cash in the corn because it will lose money and game simply doesn't allow that even though the last stop has the highest demand. I really didn't like this version at all! I kinda gave up on it. The "dynamic" ecomony just fluctuates to much. After a couple of train loads of whatever the price drops or shifts so much that the rail line I just built losses money already. Crossing my fingers for RRT4!!!

I like that feature, but unfortunatley it idn't in rt3.
What I sometimes do is lay track to a city in the mountains, then use a shay or equivalent to get the passengers/mail, and take them to a staion on flatter land, then a regualar engine takes to wherever. But I do Like the Scenery and camera controls and times of day and the rivers, and especially the 3d!!
