Steam, Diesel, Electric, they all make sounds, some of these sounds are our favorite ones.

I love the sound of the steam whistle and the steam airpump with it's steady "Chaaa-Chunk! Chaaa-Chunk!" and the chuff.

The Chug of the GE that you can hear before it even gets there.

Yeah, the GE chug is pretty cool. And so is the compreser (spelling). I like the sound of a bunch of Alcos throttling up with a heavy train.

SD40-2's for sure.........love them units...........engines are the best you can hear them really pull on a freight when the engine is at full throttle and the turbos are whining now thats an EMD classic sound.

734's old air compressor is my favorite train sound. It makes the whole engine shake when it's parked.

I like 'em ALL. Except them 'just plain horrible' horns. None specific, just the really bad sounding ones. I like the smell of steam :)

My favorite sound is when you're watching a train with a steam loco, getting ready to leave the station, and the conductor shouts, "ALL ABOARD!" and the engineer will blow his wonderful whistle twice, and after a second, you'll hear a "chuff" then another, and another, and it keeps getting faster, and you can smell the coal or oil burning, and you run alongside it on the platform, and when you reach the end, you just stop, and watch the train just roll away...

*sighs* I love doing that :)

Why just stop at the end of the platform? I'm in the cab for the entire ride.:D

The sounds of an EMD 16-645-E3 prime mover in 'idle'.

It's turbocharger whistle :)

A Leslie (R)S-5T

The "clicking" noise of air dryers.

Slack action.

Flat wheels on loaded cars.

Nathan K5H's on CSX's C40-8s.

Nathan K5LAs on MARC units (sound very mellow)

The sounds of an EMD product in idle...like an SD40-2, or GP40...etc. while in the cab...with radio chatter every once in a while.

A Nathan P5 on an NS C36-7.

Wheels going over a rail spot.

The sound of WMSR #734 at 18 mph! (MrWM734, you know all about that)

The sound of WMSR #734 when going through Brush tunnel, in the cab.

Sound of CSX's defect detector at MP BA24.3 on the Metropolitan Sub at Clopper Rd.

NKP #765's whistle, with Rich Melvin quilling it every blast of the way!

NKP #765 double heading with PM #1225 and whistling going through the New River Gorge.

NKP 765 and PM 1225 side by side running at Hurricanne W Virgnia.

Leslie S3-Ls, like the ones the B&O had....very harsh sounding, but sweet!

On the "Chessie System" tape, by RVP., the sound of C&O 3571 at Shenandoah Jct W Va in August 1985....blowing for the crossing with an S5-T-R.

I like every rr sound except the sounds of GEs.-Jeffrey

How could you figure out that 734 was going 18MPH? It seems like that when we're leaving Cumberland, but she has no spedometer. I also like the sound of me blowing her whistle at brush tunnel. We also blew whistles at a CSX Dash-9 on the other side of the narrows as well.

I like the sound of the turbo spooling up between Idle and Run 1-2 on an SD40-2's 16-645E3 engine. The transition phase sounds pretty cool too. Also the throbbing sound of a distant EMD in Run 8. As for horns, I like the sound of a Leslie RS3K that's been properly tuned.

chuga chuga chuga chuga CHOO CHOO! :P

But seriously, my favorite sound is a nice angry sounding horn. Sometimes it seems like the hogger's in a bad mood and he's willing his horn to sound nasty! :-)

My favorite sound....
A MLW RS-23 and a CN GMD-1 latched together Throttleing up and laying on the horn. I like the diesel exhaust too

I agree I love steam locomotive sounds. especially the old American steam locos.
