Speaking of a digital rebel, that's what I'm saving for right now too. This job I have will help. I'm looking at trying to get it by middle to late august :) Right now, I have a Nikon Coolpix 2100 (~2.1MP)

Sony MVC-CD 350. Got it from www.pricewatch.com for $450 last year, same model currently down to $384. Big advantage over traditional digital cameras is the MVC-CD models burn the images onto those mini CD-ROM disks, so you can shoot a couple hundred pics, pop in another CD, and keep shooting. No USB connectors or special software needed on the computer, pop the CD out and put it in your CD drive and open or transfer the images directly to the hard drive, or take it to Walgreens and make prints. The mini CD-R or CD-RW disks are a lot cheaper than memory sticks, so you can buy a lot more of them.
Hmmm Shane, I use to have a Canon 105mm....:-)
Now adays, it is a Canon Rebel 2000 with 28-80mm. However, I normally have a 28-300mm lens on ithe body at all times, and some shots get the 2x adaptor making it a 56-600mm lens.
Next spring when I come back out to tehachapi, I plan to have a Canon digital which will use the same lenses. That sucker is retailing for about $900-$1000 right now though.

Hehe , sorry Chris, I refer to all my film cams at 35MM . I was not as up to date with them as I am with my digitals.Let me know when you come to Tehachapi and I will be there with bells on ( and a rebel :P )
As for the cost of the rebel. The one I am saving for now is going to write up to be about $1100.00 with Memory stick and all. Best buy has a deal for the camera with lense that is $1000.00 and I have $150.00 in the bank with more coming at my B-day . I should have it by spring when you come ;)

Yea, the Digital Rebel doesn't have a card, but thankfully I already have a CF card for my Nikon Camera (128MB). I found the Camera and Lense Kit for $800, if that's what you were talking about Shane. You may have been speaking of a nicer lense than the 18 - 55 Canon lens I'm speaking of. Anyways, I'm looking to order mine somewhere around Middle of August this year. :)

I have a Kodak EasyShare CX6230. At 2.0 megapixels it produces what people tell me is a very fine quality picture. Im trying to get pictures of a CN locomotive that started going by on the WHRC line by my house. When I get some and figure out how to post I'll show some.
Cheers, Morgan

At this moment , I am going to start with the 18 - 55 Canon lense until I can get that and take some shots to find out my stuff. I have a 128MB for the camera I have but I don't think it will work with the Rebel so I am counting the card as part of the cost.

Well the my main camera that I use a Sony 3.6 Megaixl Camera, but I've hated the zoom on it, as it's limited to what it's got. The camera is kinda "point and shoot" but there are manual overrides. Another drawback to it is that it takes a while to figure out the right settings for the photo, so to help my railfaning along, last week I dived back into the past.
I brought my dads' Canon AE-1 out of mothballs after a 10 year retirement, and after some railfaning with it's zoom lens re-installed and taking the photos to walgreens I've decided that it's worth it to use it. In fact I've bought a used powerwinder to accelerate my phototaking skills, which was one of the problems with the digital. The power winder is noiser than it should be, but that's okay. When the guy who sold it to me told me it was noisy, I quiped " ah crap, I'm gonna scare all those K-36s and SD70's with all the noise this thing will make"---he did'nt get it.

I have a Nikon D70 digital SLR and I'm very happy with it. :) If you want to see some examples, all the photos on the first page of the Diesel Gallery on my site were taken with this camera.
BTW, this camera doesn't cost that much more than the Canon 300D (rebel in the US), but IMHO it offers far better features.

If it' a CF, it will work. (CF = Compact Flash). Just found out that the RAW format that I'd like to use takes a whopping 7MB per shot. OUCH!! 16-17 Shots on a 128MB card. UGGG. sheesh, that 16 MB card that came with the coolpix I have, would only hold 2 shots LMAO!!! Good Luck with your camera, I hope to purchase mine in a week or 2. :) Can't wait.
Chris
PS:I must be too engulfed in wanting it. I had a dream that I got it, last night. LOL Am I drooling or what?
