Canadian class 1 railroads!

I imagine many people would not take kindly to grouping BNSF and UP together!

Just a thought.

Sorry, I ran out of spaces if I had one more I would have put CP in one and CN in the other. I think we need polls like on the trains.com forums.

That would make some people happy, but I doubt we'll see CP gobbled up by CN, not in my life time anyway (although I may live to eat those words! :-) )

I hope that CP doesnt get gobbled up by CN. Now I must go see kicking horse pass.

BNSF, primarily because they were the first ones I photographed on Tehachapi, and I love both paint schemes, but oddly, I enjoy seeing the Heritage I paint. Notihng beats them when they are cleaned up IMO. I also like them becasue you still can see some of the great Santa Fe's motive power on most trains.

CP and CN are also some favorites too.

CP is my favourite railway of all time........first transcontinental railway in Canada.......CN just rose from the aches of the other bankrupt railrays GTW, other CNR (Canadian Northern Railway) etc.

You probably heard before that CP actually wanted to buy CN out......I dunno when that was but I guess a couple of years ago....but it never happened because the government didn't allow it and never did.

When it comes to both railways locomotive roster CP had a variety of steam locomotives and CN was more straight forward but the tables have changed now CN has a variety of diesel locomotives and CP's power is more straight forward. But still long live CP.

Big New Santa Fe gets my vote. For that exact reason. :)

NS would be close behind, then maybe CN.

I heard a while ago BNSF and CN wanted to 'merge' to have a route from Halifax to Los Angeles, but it was shot down.

I'll give you 1 guess about my pick.

I think you are right Dave I remember hearing about that at one point, not too long ago.

I heard about that before......but the STB put a 15 month moratorium on the merger of CN - BNSF, if STB didn't stop it then CN-BNSF would go ahead and merge and become a mega-railroad and call itself North American Railway Inc. and then CP and UP would merge automatically and CP would have to give up its stock on Pan-Am Petroleum in order to make it succeed. From what I heard it would be like this if the railways were to merge it would be:
CN, BNSF, NS
Then it would be :
CP, UP, CSX

Thats what I heard would happen.....but this was all rumours its all from the past.

It was in one of my old trains Mags in the news section.

BTW, with that poll, the Canadian you have to divide it in half because of the two lines. (maybe we should have another poll ;-))

None, of the above. EXCEPT...I will throw a vote to the CP. I don't even remotely live close to the road, but I sure enjoyed it when I went visiting Vancouver and points east, some 30 years ago. And the poll is for modern, so my vote may be out of line, but what the hay, nonetheless, a Pure class act.
