Until tonight on Lou Dobbs. He had a segment about a VERY successful operation of catching illegal immigrants inside the border. Twelve officers had caught 500 or so illegals in 3 weeks.
Well...this can't go on, this is racial profiling, so it has been put on hold.
A few points:
Some Mexican looking professor (must have been legal) was crying that the people were afraid to go to the store etc. If they were legal they wouldn't have to worry about it, and if not...get the hell out.
A politician (didn't catch the name) was crying about racial profiling. Excuse me, if you are 60 miles from the Mexican border, what do you look for, Martians or Mexicans?
This is so mind boggling, I just can't believe it. Supposedly we are guarding the borders against terrorists while who knows how many zoom across every day then they stop a project that actually works.
Stop this world and let me off, thank you.
Off we go,

I dont watch CNN, but I really bet that it was Raul Grijalva, very liberal I might add.
It's sad that we cant ask stop these guys because of racial profiling, becasue I really think that gringo with the Jeep Cherokee, a Dale Earnhart Hat, and a .22 pistol is an illegal immigrant.

That's right, it is. Mexican-looking does not equal illegal immigrant, but some people can't understand that...

That has jack sh*t to do with it. Even if you ARE legal you have to worry because everyone assumes that, since you're Mexican, you're illegal, and in this case, you can be harassed for it. How would you, sir, like to be accused of being illegal simply for the way you look? I sure don't like it, and I was born in Wisconsin. :)
>A politician (didn't catch the name) was crying about racial
>profiling. Excuse me, if you are 60 miles from the Mexican

You look for anyone without the proper papers. There are white people native to Mexico, too. Imagine that!
>This is so mind boggling, I just can't believe it.

Oi.
Racism is racism whether you like it or not. Just because a nation has made it acceptable due to the actions of a few people from a certain ethnic group does not change that fact in the least. The same thing happened in Europe, sir, and because people allowed it, believeing that it wa acceptable and not what it was, 12 million people (needlessly) died. We should be prosecuting ALL illegal immigrants, not just the ones that have darker skin, fella. You're right, how so many people can find this acceptable is mind-boggling.
This is NOT a black (brown?) and white issue. There is a lot of grey, but outright saying that every Mexican in sight is probably illegal - that's just sad, sir.
And you don't have to worry about Mexican terrorists, we're MUCH too lazy to plan anything short of excessive coordinated gas.

Oh no, a cheesehead. I suppose you think Brett Farve can walk on water. Go Vikings!
First off, Lou hates illegal immigrants, undocumented workers etc, he prefers illegal aliens, which they are, ILLEGAL.
You are correct, illegals from many countries come through Mexico. Well, that just sucks as far as I'm concerned. Then this Fox guy wants us to make it easier for people to come here. Why doesn't he fix up his own country so people won't have to come here to make a decent living?
Diaper? No sir, I'm a Depends man myself, very comfortable.
Another segment told about pulling over a van for speeding and finding 8 illegals from El Salvador I think it was, this was in the northeast. What did the INS say? Let them go unless they did something illegal. What? Isn't entering the US illegally doing something illegal? Guess not! So the local police told them to take a hike, see ya!
What BS! Just open the borders, let everyone do what they want and to hell with it.
Off we go, (with Depends)

This happened in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. It was nine Illegals from Ecuador actually. They were speeding in a van and were stopped. The local police chief notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly INS now under Homeland Security). They refused to take custody of these criminals. The local PD interviewed them and took down information from them. Then they had to let them go. The reason being that the local fuzz has no jurisdiction in the matter. The Feds refused custody because they said they had no ability to take care of the matter. Appearently they are understaffed.

Personally I think it's a natural inclination, if it stands out it gets noticed, whether it's different skin color or a tulip in a field of dandelions.
Neighborhood I live in was predominantly white until 1967, and by 1970 it was mostly black. These days I see a white person in the area, and naturally wonder what he/she is here for. Guess that makes me a racist too. The majority of the white people you do see on those rare occasions are here to buy drugs or sell guns, so it's natural to be suspicious. We don't get many tourists.
Consequently I get racial profiled about every other month, I'm 51 years old and drive like an old lady, obeying speed limits and signs, using turn signals, all that stuff, haven't had a ticket in almost 20 years. The only thing that COULD attract the attention of the cops is the color of my skin, so when I get pulled over it's for DWWIBN, Driving While White In a Black Neighborhood. It's a PITA sometimes, but not the cop's fault since most of the time they DO get somebody that's involved in some kind of illegal activity. My friends and I don't pay much attention to each other's race tho, since we're used to each other.

Funny thing, they set up one of those seat belt enforcement checkpoints on my block twice this week (don't get me started on the constitutionality of mandatory seat belt laws, we'll be here all year), with a huge orange sign announcing "SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT". I'm 150 feet north of the corner, so I could see all the southbound cars slowing down so they could buckle up real quick, but about every 10th car would just cruise up to the intersection without buckling up and get a ticket.
With that you could argue that this was discriminatory against the mentally handicapped, since the only people getting tickets were the ones too stupid to buckle up when they saw the sign!

Another topic that could explode into a flame war.
Seat belt stings, when law enforcement has too much time on their hands. That's the time I grab the orange florencent duct tape and slap it on the shoulder belt as a protest. When will they go after the red light runners, excessive speeding, passing across double yellow lines, and the rest of the crude nonsence committed by people in a big fat f****** hurry.
My brother, who works for CSX, told me this story that happened 20 years ago when he was working as equipment mechanic. He was working a job with a road gang, mostly Mexicans that spoke very little English, no one else will work on road gangs even though it pays well, when an INS agent pulled up to the job site. Suddenly, he was all alone except for the job foreman. When the agent left, the road gang returned. Even though there were no illegals in the crew, they were not taking any chances with the INS agent.

Hee-hee, well, I'm with you. When I was a kid (I was number 3 out of 7 kids) we had a '58 Rambler station wagon, and most of us rode in the back of the wagon sitting on the floor. Riding in the back of pickup trucks on a nice summer day was also fun, but back then seat belts were for race cars and airplanes, cars didn't have them. Alas, they hand out driver's licenses to anyone, even those who don't understand the kinetic energy involved in 2 tons of steel going 44 feet per second, so seat belts are a necessary evil these days. After umpteen thousand major accidents at my intersection from people ignoring the 25mph limit on residential side streets, instead of cracking down on speeders they put up stop signs;
http://forums.flightsim.com/dcforum/User_files/40faca4d07a62bf0.jpg
Note the "children playing 15mph" sign on the far right, which they pay as much attention to as the stop signs and one-way signs. My favorite, after all the signs were put up:
http://forums.flightsim.com/dcforum/User_files/40faca5907eb52ef.jpg
Police and fire arrived to find no victims in this accident.
One car blows the stop sign at 60mph, the other car was going the wrong way down Fulton at about 40mph. Turns out both cars were stolen, so all the drivers and passengers bailed out and ran like hell.

Hey all
Yep this is one of those topics that of late just gets my goat with local authorities walking on eggshells in regards enforcing laws that I and my wife have to obey.
When I moved into my house in January of 98 we had a nice mixed community with African Americans,Hispanics(legal ones),Asian, just your friendly neighborhood melting pot, then two years ago a house just three doors down was sold and a moving van shows up with about 15 cars and moving in commences, after the move in 5 cars go 10 remain, as it turns out they have ten adults living in a three bedroom home(not counting the kids)as it stands now we have three other homes packed to the gunwales with people, parking on lawns,in other peoples driveways and such.
in several of these homes you can smell the fireplaces burning yearround as they use the fireplace for additional cooking areas and multiple calls to the village building department are placed in the "thanks for your concern" column despite the fact that building codes restrict the amount that can ocupy a single family home.
Last Thanksgiving I had to meet one of our new "neigbors" at the door with a 45 automatic as he was very, very insistant on getting into our home(actually trying to break the door down)when the police arrived he was found in the bushes across the street with no ID, was questioned and sent home to "sleep it off" as he was stoned out of his gourd(guess I should count myself lucky I wasn't charged with violating his right to break into my home).
I can darn well tell you if the wife and myself decided to bring in another 12 or 14 boarders to make ends meet we'd recive a vist from the building inspector and I can tell you with fair certainty if I'd tried breaking down a neighbors front door in an attempted home invasion best case senario is that I'd be spending Thanksgiving in the local lockup, worst case is that I'd have stopped several slugs

Today you see all the kids under 8 being buckeled into seats in the backs of cars, when I was that old (10 years ago) I had my face aginst the windsheild, lay above the back seat in on that flat area, or If we were in the truck I'd always be in the bed, even though it had a camper and the fumes accumilated in there.
Did I mention the trampoline with no net (unlike what people use today) on the concrete basketball court?

"(guess I should count myself lucky I wasn't charged with violating his right to break into my home)".
In the UK, you would be the one charged with violating his right to break into your home plus endangering him with the posession of your 45 which is also illegal over there.
At least, the police showed up. Certain areas of Saginaw, they won't bother. They figure its better to let the locals eliminate the problem instead of the danger of arresting drugged up, uncooperative, armed suspects and having to go through the hassle of court proceedings just to have the judge let them off on probation.

This was sent to me a few days ago;
My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread Mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.
My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes too, but I can't remember getting E-coli.
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring).
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.
We all took gym, not PE.... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors.! I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.
Flunking gym was not an option.... even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.
Every year, someone taught the whole school a lesson by running in the halls with leather soles on linoleum tile and hitting the wet spot. How much better off would we be today if we only knew we could have sued the school system.

You can use hobby plastic sheeting cut to size from Evergreen. Available at most hobby places. Use the 005 to 010 sheet. If you need to do so, use a pin drill to punch holes in the sheets.
Use vasoline to soften and seal the vacumn pump if needed.
Edit; Link to the website. http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/Sheets.htm
Mattel still had plastic sheets available a few years back. I don't find any reference to the plastic sheets. I think that the Leaches have forced them to dump any remaining stock.
Poor mans vacumn form. 1. Frame made from wood or metal. 2. box to fit form with a hole for shop vac and a pref top made from pre drilled circuit board.
Place sheet of plastic in form and put in toaster oven on Broil. Place mold on box and turn on vac. When plastic sags and starts pulling back, quickly remove from oven and slap over mold down to box to seal the edge. The part will form in less then a second.
Keep an eye on plastic in the toaster oven. It only take a few seconds to reach the proper temperature for molding.

Well, no more. Someone was shot in broad daylight in one of the projects. The officer came and just took pictures as the wife of the victum tried to stop the bleeding. 34 minutes later, the ambulance was allowed in, of course, too late.
Last night, another shooting. One dead, two wounded.
In all cases, no one saw anything.
City police are now practicing a policy of eventually, the problem will go away as they kill each other off. There are about 104 officers left, down from 150 thanks to budget cuts. (Means about 12 or so on patrol for a high crime city of 60,000. Small wonder all of the lead poisoning going on.)
Here are the links to the stories. They are good for about 14 days from the post date.

Indeed!! And what is the reason for all these budget cuts? It wouldn't be OLTR's tax cuts would it, leaving less money for the states to get by on?
If anyone knows of a web site showing how many teachers have been laid off or will be in the next school year because of budget cuts I'd like to see it. I know in Minnesota the numbers are in the hundreds if not the thousands. Can't seem to find much myself.

It's a combination of reason. The main one is the loss of taxable property value - the tax rate is fixed and cannot be increased unless the voters approve, the loss of the richest 20,000 residences who were paying a 1.5% income tax, all of the businesses that ran South for cheaper labor and less regulations, and throwing money at rediculous schemes to attract tourist downtown. They are still throwing money away at such schemes.
Edit; I forgot to add the taxes they lost when the jobs left from people that worked in the city but lived in the suburbs.
Now, they are trying to hold the county for ransom. The Saginaw - Midland Water System sells water to the suburbs. If an area of the suburbs wants to expand the water supply, the city wants to charge those residences and businesses city taxes and make residence and employees pay city income tax. This is in addition to what people would pay for the water which is normally more then what city residents pay. State law prevents them from using water funds for general funds. But, they have found a loophole to tax money from county residences who want to use city water. (Boston Tea Party Anyone?)
Speaking of the school system, They want to bond $270,000,000 to build new schools, tear down some un needed ones, and upgrade some others, even though they are closing schools due to lack of students. Of course, that went down in flaming defeat.
The crunch really hit as a result in cuts in State and Federal grants, money that was being used for general funding instead of the special projects it was designed for.
It's heading the route of Flint, when the State had to take control due to their corruption and runaway defict spending.
National Education Association might have the info among the propraganda on their website.

I don't think that it is safe to do anything in a classroom anymore. (If you can still do any more hands on of off stuff anymore.)
Gone are the days of floating lead in a beaker of mercury or constructing a homemade barometer in the Science class. We should be all dead from playing with the stuff years ago at home and in the classroom.

Well, here's another view:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/otherviews/cst-edt-ref23.html
Not really sure if his opinion takes the outsourcing problem into account, if the wages for the lowest jobs went up, US business owners would just move everything out rather than stop hiring illegals.
My whole position on this is that it would be nice if we could spread the wealth out. Not gonna happen, the top 10% of the US owns 50% of the wealth, and 90% of that is in the top 1%. The rest of us don't have enough to get by on, let alone share with illegal immigrants, but if conditions here in the US are so bad for the 90%, why is everyone else trying to get in? Obviously because it's worse there! I drove a taxi between jobs for several years, and some of the regular night traffic was Hispanic guys who didn't speak or understand any English at all, but they would hand you a note with the address or name of a restaurant on it. The restaurants were where they worked, as busboys and/or dishwashers, jobs that nobody else wanted at the time.
Anyway, while I agree that it's rather stupid to stop and question red haired freckle faced Irishmen when you're patrolling the Mexican border, racial profiling IS a PITA for those on the receiving end. I grew up in a kind of UN melting pot, so I guess I'm used to assorted ethnic groups.
