Which is better to you? Me myself UPS has always delivered my packages, I've had limited experience with FedEx.

I'm kinda partial to FedEx, but both have been fine to me. :)

Did you hear that the two companies are merging? They're calling it Fed-UP!

That was a funny commercial when they (UPS truck one side Fed-Ex on other) stopped at the railroad crossing. Then an Arizona & California train comes roaring by with DHL trucks on TTX cars.

Hmm.. I think both shine in different aspects, I had ordered a package and it shipped from southern NJ, and I'm NY.. UPS had the package in NY and at my door the next day, so they know what there doing when it comes to ground ops.. BUT.... Fedex on the other hand, when getting a package from southern NJ.. takes 2 or 3 days.. which is lame, because a package from Cali takes the same.. Fedex definitely has better Air ops, but ground ops leave much to be desired

I actually hope DHL gets a lot bigger in this country, which may mean increased intermodal traffic on the railroads. It would be nice to see trains handling DHL traffic as well as UPS.

At home, no problems with either.
At work, we seem to have more problems with FedEx. I don't know who's to blame, but we had a custom piece of equipment that was insured at $15,000, being shipped back to us after some testing at a partner's site. It disappeared and we had to start over again. The joke around the office was, "When it absolutely, positively, has to be somewhere overnight..." The consensus was that we shouldn't have insured it. Someone probably thought it was something they could grab and sell, but since it was a research tool, it wasn't worth much to most folks.

In such case, did FedEx promptly pay up the insured amount or was it trouble getting it?

It took a while, but they did pay. We didn't have to threaten legal action or anything. With their electronic tracking, it was pretty obvious that they'd picked it up and then lost it, so there wasn't much they could argue about.
They first went through their "lost and found" warehouse, which I understand looks something like the warehouse scene at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I guess it's HUGE, and just full of boxes that don't have address info on them. It may all be rumor, but it would be fun to go through if it's not. :-)

My dad worked for DHL for over a decade, driving trucks.
He retired in early August 2003, right before the merger with Airborne Express.
Less than a week after he left, they laid off EVERYONE my dad worked with, and brought in Airborne people. No one had any idea, except my dad's freind at Fed Ex, who told him that it was going to go down almost like Airborne taking over.
Dad didn't believe it, but like I said, less than a week after my dad retired, all of his freinds were gone. With the merger, DHL changed it's color scheme from white with red lettering, to yellow with red lettering. My dad says he's glad that he left before they would force him to wear that ugly bright yellow :)
One a side note, the van's my dad drove had that warning beeping when they'd back up, so when I was a little guy, I called the trucks my dad drove "Beep-Beep trucks". ;)
Then, also when I was a very young dude, there was a UPS driver that frequently made stops in my development, and at my house. He found out that I loved trains, so from then on, he'd call me "Choo-Choo train man". He was a nice guy.
I've always liked UPS, always on time, I've never had a bad experience, and nor has any family, such as my grandpa when he orders his model trains.
I have a few freinds over at FedEx, one drives the trucks (and is a custom painter of engines, ..dose great work) and the other is in a management posistion.
