View Full Version : It's contest time !! - Train Sim product prize !!

Well, this is my 4000th post. I only have 2000 to go to catch up to a couple of the other blabbermouths here @ Train-Sim
Here's the reasoning behind the contest.
As most of you know most of my evening time away from Train-Sim is spent playing with my band Altered State.
HOWEVER !!
There is an entire country music scene here in Winnipeg that pays ALOT more that we are missing out on.
I have been recently introduced to a couple lady folk who mainly hosted Karaoke nights here in country bars around Winnipeg. Wow can they sing and one plays acoustic guitar.
What will happen is ...
Altered State will play 2-3 weekends a month with our singer Shelly.
http://forums.flightsim.com/dcforum/User_files/40f897d114cee5f8.jpg
Altered State will spend the other 2 weekends and EVERY Monday & Wednesday night with these 2 singers playing in a country gig.
http://forums.flightsim.com/dcforum/User_files/40f899ee1976023d.jpg
I COULD BE THE LUCKIEST MAN IN WINNIPEG !! :) :)
2 bands ..... 3 gorgeous singers !!
I was lucky enough to meet Natalie & Louise through my extremely kind girlfriend Denise.
Natalie & Louise are Denise's cousins !! WOOOHOOOO !!!
Anyways ... here the particulars.
We can't use the name Altered State OR Daisy Dukes for a name
SO ....
The Contest
Pick a name for the band !
The Prize
Any ONE Train Sim related product ( To be paid for by the band )
Deadline
Aug 3rd 2004 - ( 3 days before our first show )
Post all your “Band Names” here.
You can post as many times as you like, BUT only ONE name per post please.
If you think you can do a logo .. feel free .. Bonus points are loved by women !!
I'll have the top 5 picked by an outside person and give the top 5 to the band to make a final decision. There will be no favorites played here as the other members of the band don't know you !!
:)
Other wise I'd WIN !!!!
Good luck to all. The winner will be posted here.
( Contest applies to all, but I will only pay for shipping to North America & Canada )

Morning everyone. Some of these are really good guys. There are 2 or 3 that I think are great and I would have Nat & Louise look at right now. Some are very humorous. :) I got a good laugh out of "Morning Wood." Tim states you're a motorcycle guy as well. Why is it all you motorcycle guys have the same sense of humor? :)
As for Canadian Conflict? That will only be Shelly and myself. Oh ya Tim I trust you & Shelly away hanging out every weekend! (Well I have bad news >> Girls Lie Too! ) You seem to forget I saw your band 2 times before we even started talking. Are you and Shelly positive you're not married? Hehe that should get a rise out of Tim when he wakes up. We got home last night around midnight from a motorcycle ride with about 30 of his lunatic motorcycle buddies. If I had to hold on for dear life while Tim decided to pop wheelies from light to light ONE MORE TIME, I was going to get off and take the bus home. Ya Tim that wheelie was cool!(Well I have more bad news >> Girls Lie Too! )
Anyways, we got home around midnight, You'd figure bedtime right?
WRONG!
He has the PC located in one of the spare bedrooms in the basement. Anyways I was pretty sure he had an actual train running down there. ( Note to self - Earplugs required before my next visit! )
Here's my name entry for the week!
"Ladies Don’t Trust Any Man In This Band. Mainly Troy & Tim!”
:P
It may be a little long, but people will remember that name for sure.
I think I'll head back to my little town I call home before Tim wakes up. Have a good week everybody

OK, this will be my final entry (Hooray!!) because I could go on with this sort of crap (which is what most of mine are) for days, so I'm just going to have to make myself stop (in spite of the fact that I'm getting ready to go mow the yard--my moments of greatest inspiration!! :) ). This last one has absolutely no business being the name of a country music band, but it's stuck in my head and the only way to get it out is to type it out:

"Hey why doesn't Tim just change his name to Garth Brooks, and Denise can be Shania Twain? I don't think those names have been used yet."
See, that's the problem with this contest--most country music bands don't have names! They're all just named after the lead singers and nobody remembers the bands (esp the keyboardists)! ;)
The other problem is that, well, country music bands play for country music fans. This means that 98% of the people who go to hear the concerts won't understand half of the words Mike Sinclair is using in his band names. . . :)
While I run and duck for cover, I'll leave you with some more (since I promised to quit, I'll just throw them all in this one thread and disqualify myself)
1) Lunar Aspect (which is what I meant when I put Lunar Signal earlier, just couldn't think of the word "aspect.")
2) Blue Fescue (told you stuff comes to me while mowing the grass! It's that free assocation time. . .)
3) Free Association (speaking of, why not?!?)
4) Catfish Bay (it IS a country music band, right??)
5) The Blue Spruce Band
6) The Death River Band (the name of a local river here is the Nolachuckey, which is Native-America (Cherokee??) for "River of Death." I'm thinking of incorporating this into the name of a fictional RR I'm pondering, but maybe it could be a band name in the meantime. . .)
7) The "Dear-God-we've-got-a-groupie-and-we-haven't-yet-named-our-band" Band. . . :)

Wholly Crap !!
I tried to avoid this post until the 3rd, BUT Natalie & Louise wanted to know what ideas had been come up with.
SO !, I printed off this post and brought it out to the show they played on Tuesday night at " The Palomino" with their current band Daisy Dukes "
THERE'S A FEMALE FIDDLE PLAYER IN THE BAND THAT MAKES THESE 2 " NOT AS PRETTY " Denise failed to mention this little tid-bit of information I see ! ( I'm sure I'll be getting grief over that comment )
I told Nat & Louise I was just leaving Altered State and joining their band ! Makes things MUCH easier ..... and better for me.
:)
Shelly wouldn't go for it and issued me a couple threats about what would happen to me if I even thought about it !! And no to clarify NO we are NOT married despite what most people think
Anyways, there's 5 or so here that I think are amazing right now. But in the end the decision will not be mine.
************************************************** ********************
Now to reply to some of these.

Well …. That name would pack the bars … But I don’t want all guys in the crowd thanks
************************************************** *******************
Well I guess that’s all the comments I have for now.
To the guys with vast amounts of "names", feel free to put them all in one post. I really didn’t think there would be this many responces.
The intention when the contest was over was to
Print off this post
Cut out every answer
Sort them into “ Yes “ / “No” & “Maybe” piles
Then break it down to a final 5 / then finally a winner
With each post I’d have your TS name on top, making it easier to notify you, however, I’ll just tag your TS name on every entry when I get them printed out.
I’m gonna see about some sort of Top 4 runner up prize, BUT I need to speak to powers higher than me here @ Train-Sim.
Keep em coming.
Later
PS: I am expecting that my new avater will be removed when Denise shows up Saturday ! :)

Why not carry the obvious reference to the TV show a little further?
"......and the Hazzards"
".......and The Boss Hoggs"
I would have suggested "The Roscoe P Coltranes" but for the

I don't know if someone already has chosen this entry, as I don't want to scroll through all these messages, but I think Sidetrack(ed) is a good name for a band. By the way, I am so out of touch with today’s bands that I didn't know that Destiny's Child was a real band. Somehow, the name stuck in my head.

Morning all,
I am back from our 4 day outdoor gig.
It was a GREAT time ( from what I can recall )
:)
I am sitting @ work looking through these now and there are a couple I really like.
Now while I was gone, my PC took a turn for the worse. However, Denise was kind enough to bring the PC in to the "doctor" last week for me.
Good news is I will extened this contest until the home PC is back up & running.
Bad news is, I could have it back tonight.
Get the names in while you can.

Hee-hee, nope, nobody ever accused me of being a man of few words. Biggest secret is DSL, I've always typed fairly fast, but when I had dialup the connection would get broken halfway thru. I eventually learned to type in a temp text file offline, then copy and paste into the box and click "post message" real quick. Earthlink seemed to feel that you were entitled to 3 minutes connection time for $21 bucks a month, "you have been automatically disconnected since you don't seem to be browsing the web at the moment". SBC Ameritech DSL costs twice as much, but I can stay connected as long as I want now, no need to copy text, connect and login, paste and frantically click the "post message" button hoping they don't cut me off before it's done.
Anyway, you increased by 54 posts since this started, and looks like you set a new record for responses as well! :o

Okay, i'll go with my usual suggestion from the Metallica forums when someone asks for a band name...usually this is a joke but i'm using it seriously this time...yep, logo included!
Ummm, the Solid Statement one....uhh, Alpha Centuri is MY band....
The font on the top (SOLID) is BankGothic and the font for StatemenT is a Metallica font called "Anger" which is available from www.allmetallica.com
