Went to Best Buy this evening, and bought the Ramones anthology, "Hey, Ho, Let's Go!" 2 disc set. There is also a booklet with commentary, and excellent photos.
This 2 cd set features great songs like "The KKK Took My Baby Away", "Sheena is a Punk Rocker", and "I wanna be Sedated"
I must say, the tracks have been nicely remasterd, clear, pure, unadulterated rock 'n roll (Punk:))
I HIGHLY recomend this set, even if you're only a mild Ramones fan.
I am sad to say also for those un aware, Ramones front man Joey passed away from cancer in April 2001, Dee Dee overdosed on drugs in 2002, Johnny has cancer, and his health has slowly been going downhill. Marky, and CJ are still around.
The Ramones were the forerunners of this style of music, pure rock and roll, which in the mid 70s, hadn't been seen in 10 years. At that point, "rock" had become many things, and fat with over exposure, with fan worship. Even though this is really just rock and roll, stripped down to 2 minutes, and 3 cords, it has become to be known as "punk".
The Ramones started to become more well known when they became regulars at CBGB's in New York city. CBGB is boasts to be "the home of underground rock" which in a sense is true. Hilly Krystal still owns and operates CBGBs.
And.....for those who didn't know, I am punk. I love it when people can't take me seriously when it comes to trains just because I wear black Chucks, and a leather jacket with ripped jeans. Don't judge a book by its cover, I suppose.
Have a nice day,-Jeffrey
