Hi Sabrina !
This is getting better all the time ! :7
I must apologize for giving the impression of speaking on KUJU's behalf, which as you know I am not.
I am talking ABOUT KUJU and KRS, the latter I would like to see promoted as much as possible on both sides of the Atlantic !
I am also a frequent poster, not having anything better to do, apart from KRS and MSTSBin not much else interesting going on with Train Sims ! ;-)
Still hoping that I might make it to see KRS at the Leipzig show, perhaps toward it's end !
Take care and good luck with the show !!!

Thanks Sabrina. This update also speaks to your interest in supporting steam, which I appreciate.

Hi Bill !
This update also speaks to your interest in supporting steam, which I appreciate.
This was the first example of KRS they showed us.
Looking good, don't you think ? If it functions and sounds as well as it looks then you will be happy, I am sure ! ;-)

A KRS model, yes, but I don't believe it was ever claimed to be an in-game screen from KRS. AFAIK, all screens released thus far have been renders.
Cheers!

Sabrina, the traverser -- what we in the US usually call a transfer table -- is an interesting and useful addition. You know, if you take that code and make the motion 90 degrees different you can create a car ferry. Perhaps not so widely found, a car ferry would still be an interesting feature and it sounds like you folks have already done most of the work to make it possible.
Ferrys, barges, and lighters were common in major ports in the US and a large fleet could be found on one the Great lakes.
It's an opportunity you should consider.

Only an assumption but if I read between the lines here the traverser itself (though off 90 degrees) can act as the car ferry on a custom module depending if the track ends are forced in the transfer table alignment or not. It probably would be restricted to a straight line though.
This opens up another interesting opportunity and that is moving ships (also probably limited in a straight line - but who knows). Replacing the track to be below the surface of water and moving it up and down would be kind of neet. It will make my Welland Canal alot more interesting. Never thought of the locks though which would require at least 2 plains to work. :)
Thanks

Hi Sean !
The German WUPPER-EXPRESS 10 has these 2 barges continually going up and down the river Rhine at Cologne. I think it's done with some sort of repeating animation ! ;-)

That is not a 3d render, look at the ties. ;)

RR ties or personal ties?
I'm missing the RR ties in that image. It must be good.
Thanks

yep - as in previous train simulators, we expect that the community will modify and use the basic functionality in ways that will surprise us!

Yep - as in previous train simulators, we expect that the community will modify and use the basic functionality in ways that will surprise us!
A discussion on that subject over at UK-Trainsim.com, me suggesting that instead of having to use Batch files like we have to do with MSTS to change Scenery such as trees, objects and tracks textures, etc, it would be great if we could do that while actually running a route.
Just for a laugh I did this to the MARIAS-KOOTENAI.
It now has 2 versions of WORLD files. The WORLD-OLD folder with the already updated again by me original trees, having also added distant mountains and the WORLD-NEW folder with new ones.
Here my train is starting at Athol, going towards Sandpoint in the original scenery:

Paused the route and Alt-Tab to the Desktop to run the New-W(orld).bat:
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/108956.jpg
As soon as MSTS loads the next set of NEW WORLD files we are in a different looking route from then on ! :7
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/108957.jpg
I have used Spring trees here to show a better contrast, still running the route in Summer !
And of course you can go back to the original scenery by using the other Old-World Batch file. ;-)
The tracks textures could of course also be changed the same way while driving in the route !
KRS can not possibly cover all the angles and satisfy all expectations and it will be just as much fun doing our own thing with it as we had and still have with MSTS ! ;-)

That's a slightly curmudgeonly response, ragtimer - do you expect Kuju to respond and say "er, no, we put this feature in to disguise our shortcomings"? I know Otto goes OTT in his praise, but I'm sure we all wish the guys there well and to do the best they can for us.

Not curmudgeonly at all, merely realistic.I have asked on several occasions about the basics and there has been no reply forthcoming. If they do not get the basics correct then their effort will be wasted. They can surely read what is posted in other forums on this and other sites about the shortcomings of the present sim.For myself I find the graphics of the present sim not too bad considering its age and stone age graphics system apart from the crashing.I occasionally play "Call of Duty" on my machine, lots of action, great graphics NO CRASHES.By the basics,I mean realistic braking systems ( different in different countries);realistic signalling ( different in different countries-e.g we do not have "approach" in UK);a sensible AI dispatcher. The list goes on.It would be interesting to learn who is advising them on real railway matters. What I have posted is in the hope that they do get it right but I have seen and heard nothing to allay my concerns.

Hi Peter !
What I think they need is an adviser which can tell them what the majority of gamers and simmers want and think that they got one with EA ! ;-)
As for singing the praises of KUJU, was it not them who created the best to date Train Simulator, having a long track record of creating games, making use of the latest in graphics technology ?

Not down to me,but if I were developing the software I sure would get some advice, especially after reading this and other forums which have highlighted shortcomings in the present sim.

> I have asked on several occasions about the basics and there has been no reply forthcoming.
I think the issue comes down to the question of whether KRS is a railroad simulator (i.e., the full works), a train simulator (i.e. something more like Auran's product than Microsofts), or a game that uses trains (e.g.,more like Railroad Tycoon).
And whatever it is there is always the judgement that the consumer will make when the product is in hand -- did Kujo achieve whatever goal they have in mind, or does the product come up short?
At this point in time, there is only speculation and wishful thinking. We'll know a bit more after the Leipzip show in August.
