Hello,
I would like to make the following suggestion as a feature for the world editor:
Similar to the VBA macro editor supplied with products such as Excel and Word, I would think that a similar macro facility for the terrain and world editor would be an incredible productivity tool.
User actions would translate into simple (or not-so-simple) script commands. The scripts in turn could then be repeated, parameterised, and even be generated by another program. The BVE sim uses a player piano script paradigm which is not entirely unlike what I would expect here.
At the recent ACM Siggraph 2006 convention in Boston, one animated film (RAMA, by Eric Bruneton) was shown which featured a procedurally modeled cylindrical world. I think that support for procedural content placement, track generation, terrain manipulation, and so on opens up new horizons in route creation.
It also opens up a migration path for MSTS routes and routes from other sims.
Thank you for your consideration.
