I'm sure someone has already pointed this out...but the excellent screen shot of 44839 reminds me of one of the ToonTown movies, where the eyes bug out...
...and the number board of the locomotive (not sure of my Euro loco types) sure is bugging out in that shot at

Most steam locomotives that survived into the 1950's under British Railways recieved the cast numberplate on the smokebox door. The locomotive in the screenshot is the 'Black 5', a 4-6-0 mixed traffic class 5 locomotive designed by William Stanier in the 1930's for the LMS Railway. BR continued building slightly modified versions after nationalisation in 1948.

Ok...I can't stand it...did no one else see the number board hanging in space a meter or two in front of the engine? You guys responded so seriously to my post...I'm not sure anyone got what I was talking about.
Look closely at the number board hanging in space, in front of where it should be located on the engine...

Yes, Brits can! Irish, Welsh, & Scots too...I've actually experienced them makng ironic comments...this while working at Ford a few years ago...and spending many pleasant weeks in & about the Coventry / Warwick area while working a bit with the Jaguar folks...
Stayed in Warwick, just down a bit from the Castle...where I spent many hours...Too bad Google has placed it in the "blurry zone" ! Someday when time and money are both available, my wife and I shall hire a barge for a few months during the spring...April & May...to tour or maybe just tie up and bicycle aroud the local areas we visit.
Anyway...I can see it's a clock, but I must have some perception problem with my viewing of this number board & it's relation to the surrounding scene. Perhaps there is some visual trickery causing my short sight, but even as I know what it is, and what it's attached to, I still see it more in a plane with the locomotive than the building.

I think it's the lack of shading on the wall it's on, I never looked at it that way though. It does look like it's floating in mid-air, doesn't it?

Old brick building, steam locomotive, DIGITAL CLOCK?!? No wonder it looks peculiar!
Robert
Well the bench is modern ie post 1980's.
I am not sure where it is supposed to be. But most UK BR stations are like that.
BTW - Maybe it is the angle but the tender looks too short
