Neat! But I'd be down at that Depot! That in the shot will look 100% better to them overall, and shooting more of the train and not just the power helps...

Why do I find myself hating you? I have to move to a place with trains one day.

Oh well, I suppose I can get MSTS fixed up and prentend.

Good pics. Are you actually allowed to get that close to the tracks? No fence?

Most likely... Although living in the land of fences between railways and you, it surprises me that there isn't a fence to keep idiots off the tracks...

Obviously I have my geography mixed up. What's that country where people sue the railway for not stopping them from walking on the tracks?

>and shooting more of the train and not just the power helps...
Well, not always. It can get boring shooting every single car on the train. For starters, shoot the power and the end of the train...basically what Erik did. I do that all the time.

I used to shoot freight cars, but that was getting boring...

jay611
07-08-2006, 11:16 PM
And that's why I have more shots than you on Railpictures :)

Shooting the power, and the first few cars is the key to a good shot. Not solid roster shots of the power as seen above.

>I used to shoot freight cars, but that was getting boring...

I wonder why that is...<Rolls eyes> If you dont understand the reason for shooting various rolling stock as it passes there is no fun in it. I use mine for modeling and to create a roster of various rolling stock that I have seen weather it be new or old.

Either way, looking at pictures of just the locomitve is not even close to quality unless it is in some odd paint or number. Wide angle vs. tight angle shots... Cramming the loco into the shot, is not as fun as cramming in all the other trackside objects and building that will come in handy to you in the future.

You'll learn at some point...

But once again Mike, I cant suck if my stuff is on Railpics :)

and I've been shooting stills (slide, print) since 1997.

Not to mention I didn;t think you liked "Flame-sim" or what ever you call it ever since you got banned. Photograghy is an art, one that takes skill, patiance, and practice. Also it required and artistic view, which since you cant even waste a frame on a hopper, you dont posess.

Notice in this shot I shoot down the LENGTH of the train and not just at the power. Although she was moving at 45, I could have easily opted to shoot the power only, but then the shot is a bit... dry...

And I did shoot the power on this one, as it had a rare CSX SD40 in the consist.

>Let me know when your skills improve

Let me know when you learn to crop people out of your shots and not crop the cab of the second unit out...Also make sure you have enough light to show detail in them!

You want long?

I think your just mad or suffering from a case of the red arse over the fact I know more ways to get things in my shot that catch people eyes. The only thing in the shot of 734 that catchs mine is the low light and people in the shot...

Australia has it right, fence off everything and show people you mean business when you say No Trespassing. People sue railroads in the U.S. because they can, and any bottom feeding lawyer (see lawyers that advertise on T.V.) will take the case.

And here we go again, Mike is in another arguement over the dumbest of things.

jay611
07-09-2006, 01:44 AM
I personaly think they should pass a law of some sort that doesnt allow the railroads to be sued do to the stupidity of todays society. Most railfan are aware of their limitations on areas to get shots, how to get them, and doing it safely. But I've seen many a person take a shot, the run across the tracks to get another shot from the other side as the train barrels down on them. It's stupid what people do.

April 2005... I think the SD40-2 would be best because the GP60M is so rough riding!

Who the hell cares if your pictures are on Railpics.net?? This isn't Jr. High..you guys sound like a bunch of girls arguing about who has the most expensive pair of shoes..Holy Crap..

The things people say just amaze me..

And that B23-7 is rougher riding than the GP60M's IMO, but the GP60M is probably the quietest of the 3 w/ the best A/C's..

I guess it's time to take my camera out w/ me on runs and trespass on railroad property..haha

Kyle Kyle Kyle......... You need to learn to railroad!!! Quiet is not always better! Anywho, you actually only have 17 shots on railpics not 27 Jason. As 10 of your shots are when they accepted anything. After about 105000 they started getting tougher. SO those first 10 dont mean crap. And if they want to shoot rosters let them, and if they want to keep it interesting, let them. Last I checked, it didnt hurt anyone.

Heres a few of mine.
http://wctransfer.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=419034
http://wctransfer.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=424079

http://wctransfer.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=421363

And Jason, im not being an ass, im just saying the truth. Like i said before, nothing wrong with taking rosters.

Alec, I shoot to please myself and only myself. If I can't pass along a few helpfull tips to a young railfan so be it. Aint no law that says I cant tell him them and hope he applies'em is there? Rosters of power alone as said above really dont do much for me and the older railfans (yes I hang around older railfans who are wisers than I and are willing to help unlike some people). In a few years you'll see what I mean we you go "Damn i shoulda shot that BNSF hopper behind the GE" once NS and BNSF join up or some other odd ball joining.

Also, all the shots that are on there have gone up in the last 2 years, so much for your only 17 count. What took place in the above posts was to inform future railfans of neat ways to catch peoples attention. This post has been full of nothing more that blah blah yap yap you suck since it was started.

Nels, put this thing to bed before it gets any worse.

No more mergers would happen, with all the problems the UP and SP merger had, I imagine the feds would stop it. Plus all of the companies are doing great, why merge and screw up their profits.
