Try getting to a place like a sidewalk or platform where there are no obstructions between you and the train... also try using a tripod to keep your camera level and still, so you wont have blur. Just some helpful critique!

Sounds like a " Zak-Attack " to me.

But, here is a tip for future visitors. There was a " Wild West " show adjacent to the depot scheduled before the train was to board and I specifically asked an employee if the show was a ploy to get us away from the depot while the train backed in.

The employee said " Oh no, sir, you will have plenty of time to get pictures of the train, don't worry."

So, I go to show with the rest of the family and it lasted longer than I thought and upon exiting the show the train was already boarding. Then when we got to the Grand Canyon area we no sooner got off and found we had a few minutes to go potty and board a bus for another tour we had on the itenery. This is why the only pictures I got of the engines that dragged us up there were a little blury. They were taken from the bus window as we were pulling out and the engines had been uncoupled to go for refuel or what ever. I thought I would get pictures before the return trip but alas there was no steam engine for our return trip.

Now, I'm sorry I offended by posting the crappy pictures, but can you understand how I feel after finally getting out there from Pittsburgh and being given the run-a-round by some jerk employee??

No hard feelings, Zak, the purpose was to draw interest to a great train ride. I guess there will be some that have to go to get better pictures.

Peace & Love

Hi, Shane, Another tip if you will be going! I really enjoyed the ride in the luxury parlor cars. They were the last two and it was fun riding on the rear platform. I spent most of my time going up on the platform taking movies and pics. Since it seemed so flat though, I think maybe the people in the domes of the dome cars must have had a much better view. My wife went forward to check them out and she said that the seating was assigned and I assume that you paid a premium and were reserved a seat in the domes.

To access the rear platform, one had to be assigned to one of the two parlor cars. My wife doesn't like to stress-test my heart by telling me how much it cost and I have not looked it up. As long as I am not broke yet I'd rather just stay happy.

They allowed 6 people on the platform at a time. After being there a while I would look to see if any one else was waiting and I would step back in untill someone else left and I would scoot back out.

Did I mention that the train was stopped and some train robbers got on and went through the cars robbing everyone? The sherrif came through looking for them but for some reason he never returned my $40. He did have a resembalance to the fat one!

There was also a couple guitar packing trubidors that roamed through the cars. The one I saw was in our car for about half an hour.

I did learn my lesson about taking pictures and I camped out by the depot prior to the return trip but to my surprise, the steam engine took back the earlier trip while we were on yet another tour of the rim area of the Grand Canyon. The depot, by the way, is only a very few minutes walk from the rim. I was surprised by this because I always thought that the government kept commercialization away from these natural wonder places. Not so, I find out. It was kool to be staying in a small condo type hotel nestled in the pines and know that the sunset-view of the canyon was a five minute walk away.

Hapy Rails to You, untill we meet again

You should really embed the images, so we don't have to click on each one.

That is a really good idea, Mike, but I have posed the question as to how this is done several times and no one has answered me.

You may think it is easy and I know I am stupid but where computers are concerned, things are only easy if you know how to do them. There is just no reasoning with these machines, you either know the magic buttons to push or not and I don't know.

Sorry

Wow, the interior of those passenger cars look quite nice ! As do the ALCo's.

So you say it's within a close distance to the canyon ? This definately sounds like a trip I should be making soon! Thanks for taking the time to post your photos
