A new sub-form, starving for new threads! Let's see pictures of train horns or whistles.-Jeffrey

A former Western Maryland GP40-2 on former Western Maryland rails! This unit was delivered with a brand new Nathan K5LA, but somehow wound up with a beautiful Leslie RS5TRR, reversed #44 and #55 bells.

This variety of K5LA is sometimes associated with the Seboard System who had a number of K5LAs arranged in this pattern; K5LAR23a

Now this is a TREAT! Very rare S-5T in active class one service! This S-5T fixed atop RDMT #2310 has it's old tab-back power chambers, which may be the same ones it had during it's days as a B&O GP35. It is unknown weather the power chambers are aluminum, or the original bronze.

Back in the shops, we have some spares. A Hancock H4700 air whistle, and a new cast Nathan P124 aka P3.

Back on CSX, B30-7 #5520 has a Nathan K5HR24.

Forget all those.

The king of all airhorns, the Nathan M5.

Pffft M5 :)

Leslie horns will always belong on a freight train!

Here is the 1956 S-5T with bronze tab back power chambers I'm restoring. It's all original except for the #25 bell. It also came with it's builders tag. It was originally an all bells forward, and the year/blue paint...I've narrowed it down to the horn of a former C&O RSD12.

Wabco B7, some people have told me this was most likely an exB&M horn (I can see why)

Privately owned M5 on a former Conrail GP38-2. This was sent to me by Mike Mullins.

Right now, I'm talking to a guy who owns a couple of engines used on a shortline... he has a couple of spare things he's trying to get me to buy; Horn parts, a Nathan K5LA, and a brass bell all for a VERY reasonable price,... like my P5, I'll clean the K5LA up, and trade it for something better :) -Jeffrey

BTW... this is the only picture I have of the P5. It was a P135R24 on a gullwing manifold that came off of Norfolk Southern C39-8 #8622. I cleaned it up, and in this picture of me and my prom date from last year I have it arranged as a P1234R5.-Jeffrey

Not the best pic of a horn, but what kind of horn is this, on a former LMSX C40-8W, now numbered CSXT 7925?

FURX:

I'll make you a deal: Get that Leslie S5TR finished up and send it to me. I'll then mount it on the GP38 in our consist and I'll be in Leslie heaven everytime I make a run with it on the point and blow for a crossing.

Sound fair enough? :D

CSXCW44, that would be a Nathan K5HR24.

Jay, the first 2 chime looks like a set of Nathan P bells, so I'd say it's a P2.

The second horn looks like I see 3 chimes, so maybe an S-3K... looks shorter than a #25 bell ala S3L.

Andre, it's a slow project. That 1956 led based paint is thick and stiff. I'm using aircraft paint remover on it! The power chambers are being totally reconstructed... Behind the spreader plate on the back cap was a bunch of oily dirty water. I sucked all of it out, and have done all the internal cleaning.

I'm going to strip all the paint, down to the aluminum bells and manifold, with shiney bronze power chambers.-Jeffrey

Do you think the WP B-unit has been on that track many times before on the California Zephyr?

Yup, both units have run the Feather River in their own eras, kinda the cool thing about it

Does anyone know if any remaining SD45-2s from the EL have their original EL horns (larger bell toward the outside)?
