It's called, "Run-through Power", and it is quite common on any Class I. Come down to the CSX Chicago line sometime. We guarantee more UP than CSX! (BNSF too)

Actually it is not run through power, it is leased power.
These engines come onto the CPR in Vancouver, Canada on the co-production line.

Run through/foreign power on CP in Canada is rare, especially in eastern Canada. FP is now quite common on CN, but CP units are not and vice versa. Any CN leading CP in Ontario is considered a rare treat.

>Actually it is not run through power, it is leased power.
FYI, Run-Through power and leased power is the same thing. Ex:
UP leases one engine (HA!) to CSX. When seen leading a CSX freight, it is running through on lease to Willard or other destination, it will then return to the UP, therefore, Running-Through the CSX system.
And now you know. ;)

Run Through Power - A engine that was placed on a train to go to another place, Example
BNSF places a CSXT engine on their train, and it is taken over the BNSF line to another destination, then later ends back on CSXT tracks,
Lease - UP leases engines to CSXT for power shortage.

Before blabbing off with your knowledge, check a map.
In, CANADA, Foreign Power on CP is rare, and seeing CN on CP is even rarer.
So go back to your CSX line and be quiet.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSShhhhhhhh! Jay it was supposed to be a secret!;-) :P
That ones easy Mike, CSX! The giveaway was that engines from all backgrounds are on one train! Down here on the MET, I've seen KCS SD40s leading, WC SD45s, .....even a Central Michigan U23B!
Why travel around the country to see engines of other railroads when you can just sit by the CSX tracks and witness alittle of everything at once.-Jeffrey

Jay, I was just stating what goes on down here. For all I care, which isn't that much, it could be different up there.
So go back to your CP lines and be quiet.

If you didn't care then why did you make the erroneous comment in the first place?

Come on Jay, you know that the American experience aint neccessarily the same as ours. This should have been an opportunity to educate, not rebuke.

I thought it was a pretty rude comment towards Chris actually.
If anyone pays attention they know that Chris Wilson does not lack knowledge of Canadian railway operations. wyatt's comment sounded as if he knew everything and Chris knew nothing.
But nonetheless, know we all know that Canadian operations are far superior :+

Nice shots! :P
But you need to see some of the stuff running around the place here in Australia! :P Modern Dash9's (GL's) along with Dash8's (EL Class), SD40's (L Class), SD38's (422's), ALCo's (442's, 44's, 45 class) and even E8's (GM and S Class) working all together on the one train! :|

Oh, FYI...
CN 2541 is still on the CPR, and is heading eastbound on CP 104-22 (Edmonton (South Edmonton), AB to Toronto (Vaughan), ON). Currently the unit is out of Minnedosa, MB which is located west of Winnipeg, MB. This train shows through here late Monday night/Tuesday morning and I may get a crack at it.
As Jay, and Rob stated...
I would like you to visit this url to see how much foreign power has actually travelled through the CPR transcon. Not much! And when something leads like this, grab a camera. First I have heard or seen in ages.

Ditto there Wyatt! I went railfanning on the Chicago Line last week and caught a new UP SD70ACe plus a pair of ES44DC's behind it. Same for BNSF...saw a BRAND NEW pair of SD70ACe's trailing a CSX AC600CW. :D It's the place to watch if you like foriegn power.

You can do the same thing on the B"NS"F. We run BN(2 schemes), CN, ATSF(2 schemes), BNSF (3 schemes), NS, CR, CSX(2 schemes), UP occasionally, KCS (usually new stuff), TFM used to be regular, and wrent-a-wrecks galore. I don't recall any CP, though I wouldn't say it hasn't happened.

I did not mean to sound like Chris knew nothing. I know Chris is very smart and he is a respected member of our forum. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
But nonetheless, we all know that AUSTRAILIA is the superior and dominant country/continent.

Uh, no...it's GEVO's galore, plus some 6000's and 70AC's on the Chicago Line mostly, though the new UP GEVO's are pretty common now...

I bet that CPR crew liked having that old style control stand and a microwave. BTW, is there directional running in that area?

I was wondering that myself. I know that CN and CP share track in the Fraser Canyon with one side Vancouver bound and the other side going to Kamloops. I'd read somewhere a while ago that there was or was going to be a similar arrangement through Northern Ontario. I've heard nothing specific since.

Directional running in Northern Ontario is limited to Parry Sound to Sudbury. North on CP, south on CN. Everything else runs home rails north of there. This works because the CP main crosses the CN south of Sudbury and are really close around Parry Sound. Once you get north of Sudbury they're quite far apart untill you get west of Sioux Lookout. Reddit is around 30 minutes north of Kenora which is around 150 miles east of Winnipeg. Hornepayne is 2 hours??(Chris would know) north of the CP at White River.
