And I swear that running into these trains was not intentional! ;)

Took Heather to the National Zoo the other day, and I took some pictures with her crappy digital camera. I would have prefered my "real" one, but in the interest of money, it's cheaper to use the digital and print the results.

This Cheetah was up bright and early

An elusive critter, the Peterbilt, or "Pete" for short. This is a domestic model.

Ah, riding the METRO to and from! Here are some center cab switchers they use for MoW duties, I have no idea what they are, but I am sure they are GE models.

Up and over this westbound intermodal train. I don't know his ID, but I suspect Q137 or Q139. We paced, and eventually over took him.

We got out to catch him at Fort Totten (where the next day, a man jumped infront of a METRO train in a suicide), and as we got out, a mixed freight headed east crawled by in the other direction.

Endangered.

When I waved to the 696, the engineer went nuts on the horn, and played jingle bells.

On the way back, we overtook CSX Q261, who had a stop signal at Derwood to let the eastbound Capital Limited cross over infront of him because Danny Myers and his crew looking for sun kinks on track 2, west of here.

I shot him stopped at Derwood.

yeah these are whitecombs. I remember an article in an old magazine (can't remember which) about "saving" a retired US Army Whitecomb switcher, that looked like these. Get photos of these while you can, they were built from the 30's through the 50's, and are dissappearing FAST. have any closer shots?
