Hi, I went to visit an old friend last weekend:

and, across the road is another rail attraction

Let's pan over toward the roundhouse!
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110028.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110029.jpg
The building with the two tall, thin, stacks is the old machine shop. Vandals have broken many of the windows and they have put visqueen and wire mesh over the openings which makes it difficult to get good pictures from outside. Years ago it was easy to pear in to see all the belt driven machinery inside.

That last pic was what I call the back of the roundhouse. It looks like they cleaned up the brick, maybe cause it faces the road.
Now, here is the front, or, business side of the roundhouse:

Now, if I spin my tripod around 180deg.

And, I always thought the free standing water spout was a British devise.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110038.jpg
Here is a shot of the inspection pit. I watched for a while as they were putting the engine to sleep Sunday evening and I saw a crew member climb down with a light and check the under side of the engine.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110039.jpg
I asked one of the guys how often they changed tires and he could not remember seeing that done but he mentioned that they had extras laying about.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110042.jpg
Aparently they have many laying about!
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110046.jpg
They also seem to have a few coal cars!

I have been to a few tourist train sites but I have never seen this before not even here at the E B T, of course it has been a while since I was here last.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110053.jpg
My chick was working and could not come with me so I took a pic of another nice chick pirched on the speeder while I was waiting my turn.

It is an adder that it is antique and seems to be beautifully restored. I was surprised how willingly it started. The operator set it up and then grabbed the flywheel with both hands and gave it a little spin and it started right up. It seems to be one of those old hit and miss gas engines. It putts along rapidly till it is up to speed and then it putts intermitently when not under heavy load, to keep the inertia stored in the heavy flywheels.

Well, I got those raindrops off my lens. I just love the copula window views. There were three trips this day and I got messed up dirctions and missed the first by 15 min. but I paid the couple extra bucks for the caboose tickets and was able to arrive first in line at boarding time and get in the copula both trips. I couldn't believe that one of the four copula seats was empty on the last trip of the day.

Here we are at the Colgate picnic grove for our 10 min. layover. Supposedly people can bring picnic baskets and play and take later train back.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110081.jpg
Here is a look back toward the wye that we just turned the train on.

Here we are heading into the wye at the station end of the line.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110087.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110088.jpg
We are backing out of that first leg of the wye. Notice the kool dual trackage since the trolly line runs on the same right of way as that first wye leg. Our train is the narrow guage.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110089.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110090.jpg
The operator of the speeder has been trying to keep the antique car covered from the off and on rain and still give some rides.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110091.jpg
There is one of the other speeders.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110092.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110093.jpg
The train has been droped off and the engine is heading for the roundhouse.

Our engine is arriving the maintainance area. The streaks in front of the smoak box door is heavy rain.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110096.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110097.jpg
Remember the inspection pit? There is one of the crew climbing back out from under the engine.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110098.jpg
The fire grates have been opened and they are shaking the ashes out and dousing the fire with a water wand.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110099.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110100.jpg
They ran the engine into the house so they could turn the table and put a small diesel on it.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110101.jpg
They hooked up the diesel to the tender so they could push the engine into the house after the engine was blown down.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110102.jpg
Here they have disconnected the tenders hoses and are draining the water out.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110103.jpg
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110104.jpg
The white between the tender and cab is a cloud of steam that is being vented out on the other side of the engine.
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/110105.jpg
I have to go now because both of my camcorder batterys are flashing the dead symbol I have been babying them along hoping I can take movies and photos till the end but this blow down is taking a long time.

Outstanding photographs!! It is nice to see "rainy day shots", I get tired of all the "sunny day" perfect weather shots...
Railroading ain't all "kittens & rainbows". But you would think it by all the "sunny shots"

I was smart enough to take an umbrella and was very carefull but I was disapointed that I still had some shots with rain drops on my lens that I had not noticed till I started converting them for the posting. I got a new camera and I'm still learning how to use it. I took Johnaton's advise and finally broke down and bought a tripod. Of course the pod don't help much up in the copula where a carefull hand can dampen the jostles encountered riding over such narrow and irregular track.
My camera is one of the new ones with a hard drive and a photo card and it was difficult deciding when to take movies and when to switch to photos. The biggest problem is waiting for the camera to get into mode and get auto-focused in time for those important shots.

Nice shots! Did you get a chance to ride the trolleys? Remember, as the trolley conductors always say, "Your visit to the steam trains of the East Broad Top is NOT complete without a trolley ride!" ;)
The EBT has always been one of my favorite steam railroads. I hope to visit the old Easty again this October for the annual Fall Spectacular weekend. It's a shame they don't have any of the other engines up and running.

You are too kind, chris. The photography is far from best quality but someone had to do it.
I did not get the time to do a trolly ride this trip.
Look at the forth picture in my first post here and you see the forlorne look of the little old guy running the trolly rides. I felt sorry for him looking so sad and lonely. He called to me from his booth to tell me where to setup my pod to get movies of the first excursion comming back into the station and passing by the trolly platform.
At the end of the day we talked for a while at the station where he was waiting for his ride back home. He said he is from Allentown out by Philly, it seems like a long trip to go to work.

Nice shots! Some of the track looks better than CSX!
Seriously, Is that a narrow gauge system? It doesnt quite look like SG.
Ive grown up on a NG freight system down here.
