hmm. and all along I was told that the Delaware and Hudson was the first official railroad in the US....

I think it may be that the Delaware & Hudson is the oldest transportation company having been in water-borne business before they had a railroad. I could be wrong but I think the B&O had rails first with the D&H probably close behind.

Both the B&O and D&H were transportation companies, the B&O did strike the first spikes though.
