does anybody know if and where there might be new crossing bells? possibly both mechanical and electronic? I hate they sound of the default ones. doesn't sound like any crossing bell I've sat at. alsio is it possible to make a crossing that has gates, not have the bell sound? IOW: not hearin the bell at a crossing with gates, but only hearin it when the gates raise and lower? I've only heard a crossing bell stay on when the gates are down, and that crossing was malfunctioning. but thanks anyways.

There are electronic bell sounds in the file library (such as newbell.zip) and on a few other sites (search this forum or Google for "crossing bell".)
Not sure about out East, but in this part of the country, >80% of crossing bells stay on all the time. They only shut off when trains are likely to sit at them and annoy the neighbors. The crossing.sms file can be reconfigured to have the bell sound only when the gate moves. (Search for how to edit sms files on here... or examine the crossing.sms file for yourself to see how the gate-up/down sounds are implemented and do the similar thing for the crossing bell sound.)

I made one of the electric digital crossing bells, and I'll upload it when I can.

The sim shipped with two alternate crossing bells. Look in either of the Europe Route's Sound folders and you will find sig_euro.wav, sort of a steam locomotive bell sound. And for the electronic bell sound, look in either of the Japan Route's Sound folder and you will find sig_japan.wav.

I'm afraid I must disagree....neither of those bear any resemblance to a USA/Canadian electronic crossing bell. And the Japanese bell sounds hideous in its own right.

Well, I have a couple of train videos online. (At RR crossings) Feel free to copy the sound from any part of either one using an external program (I use Audio Central.)
