I HAVE JUST COMPLETED THE Pioneer Zephyr LOCOMOTIVE!!!!

Ok I lied.. but why the heck hasnt anyone made it yet? that really irks the heck out of me.. or one of the steam Zephyr locomotives? Like the Aeolus #4000?? I'll post a pic of it because I am sure you dont know what the heck I am talking about... but really... who is the dork taht desided that it wasnt worth making??? Its on some other simiulator.. why not MSTS? It makes zero since.. I suppose that its aerodynamic shape would probably be hard to make... I am not a 3D modeler.. and never could be, its crasy hard.. but really. common.. we need it!

Actually someone has made it already. With a few different flavors in fact.

Go to Marcel's site below. Make sure you change the language to show English if you don't understand what it says. It's on the left hand side menu to select, just click on the flag.

Now once you got that all going. Go to his locomotives section and go all the way to the last page and you will see his Pioneer Zephyr. And also he's not the only one that made the Pioneer Zephyr model either. I know there were others that made them too.

The link below also shows more of my screen shots of the Pioneer Zephyr. Along with the others that also showed their versions of it.

But that picture you have there isn't really the Pioneer Zephyr. It's a different loco you got there. Looks like one of the streamlined steam locomotives I forget off hand what its name.

Getting back to you on that picture of the locomotive you got. That one in particular is called the class S-4A Hudson of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy RR.

http://www.steamlocomotive.com/streamlined/surviving/

If you scroll down on the link above you will see a snippet of information regarding that exact locomotive.

And I do believe there is a freeware version of that thing sitting in the file library here, if it isn't one of the other streamlines that look similar to it. I think I also saw one of the payware makers of add-ons for MSTS has this in their product line. But then that isn't going to be free for you.

Same model... only repainted as the Flying Yankee.

That one looks much more pretty with the shiny metal look to it. Can that repaint of it be also downloaded somewhere?

Also, I browsed that site regarding the actual restoration effort there from the website you gave. Do they intend on making it in operating status when they're done? If so, that sure would be great. Seeing as these are also one of the first types of locomotives at the time. A true Pioneer. :)

Hi Ed,

Check your mailbox.

And Yes. They have been planning right alone to make the 'Yankee' operational.

I saw it back in the 70's when it was tucked in a corner at the Edaville Railroad (sort-of a museum near Plymouth, Massachusetts) just falling apart... so sad.

But the restoration group came to the rescue.

Have a sparkling day,
Bob

Tyler, I can tell your over excited about... everything from the looks of your posts... any chance you could tone it down a tad? Calling the modelers "Dorks" won't get you anything, and begging wont either. This is a form for locomotive and rolling stock design, not a "gimme i need this really bad" forum.

There is a place for this thread, in the items wanted section, however, that does not mean you can beg for every locomotive that has yet to be made. I'll make a post later on in the month explaining a few things since no one seems to understand them.

Cheers,

ooooh the flying yankee. oh wow that looks pretty. If you all want to keep a track of the "Yank" here's the official website. http://www.flyingyankee.com/

I can't wait to see her operational again.

It's not that anyone thought it wasn't worth making, we just haven't gotten to it yet.

There are drawings available for the Aeolus..."Alice the Goon"...as well as several sets of Pioneer Zephyr plans (including Model Railroader color renderings).

The Power Car for any of the early Zephyrs is a hard shape to develop. The tail car is also a bit of work. The stainless texture takes a while to get "right". There also aren't a lot of photos from inside the cab to help in developing that view.

Marcel's model, especially in Bob's Yankee repaint, is beautiful, but not quite right at the nose and tail.

The Aeolus, like most "streamlined" locomotives, also has a complex shape. The shrouding is nowhere near as easy to create as a standard boiler might be. Things are compounded by the fact that it's a steamer and requires a lot of animation.

Either model is a challenge and would take some time to develop.
