I got bored, so I attempted to retexture Bruce Bridges crossing signals to kind of suit a route a little better and they turned out pretty good.I thought Id post a few pics and see what yall think.

Sadly, and now some time ago, I created a set of railway crossing objects complete with lamp and bell textures, grates, etc. includng a highly detailed wig-wag. All under contract for Facing Point's Pacific Surfliner route.

Despite the fact I never received compensation for these or the complete set of signals and mounting apparatus distributed with the route, I have no power to release any of the work.

A community loss at someone else's gain.

Regards,
Hank

Man what a bummer.I think that if you took the time and effort to create something like that they should give you some kind of royalty if they dont want you to release something like on a route.Like you said ,a community loss at someone else's gain and it seems that people do most of this work for free ,and it ends up going in someone elses pocket.
Well, to get back on topic,I would like to learn to create some old railroad signs and signals myself, but its hard to find the time.I guess for now Ill just stick to texturing and reskinning.

I smoothed out the texture around the lights.

Will Bruce allow you to upload the new textures, John? Or havent you heard back yet?

Hank, how can you be denied uploading your signals somewhere? I really dont see how that works. You made them, they are YOUR work. Because of someone elses folies, you shouldnt have to pay the price for it. Marc shouldnt stop you either. He didnt build the crossing signals, you did.

I havent heard anything yet Nick. I downloaded the roadsigns and in the read me,he explains how to replace the signs with what you want and says you can use them as long as you dont charge for anything containing them(ci_signs README.txt).
Its just that he didnt say anything about it in the signals and Im just a little "iffy"about it.Although the only thing I would take credit for are the textures, I would like to make sure he doesnt mind before i upload them.

I think im gonna go ahead and upload the signals considering a lot of Bruce's work has been retextured or redone,(ie traffic signals).Im gonna include the fix that allows cars to pass after the train. It shouldnt hurt anything if its already installed.

Eh - What makes you think that I would prevent Hank from releasing anything?

Cheers!

No disrespect to you Marc, but I thought you have the rights to The Pacific Surfliner route after the incident.

Looks great to me. And these are all a 'one piece object'? As opposed to say Niagara Corridor, though great looking - they're 2 piece or more in places it seems?

Good job by ALL those involved. :)

Thanks for the comment.I hate to say it , but they are mostly 2 piece except for the static ones that doesnt flash. It can be tedious placing them all together. The easiest way i have found is to place the base, and before you move it, add what you want(mast, 2 track sign, etc). The trick is to position the camera above the mast and center the "X" at the base. When youre done adding, position the cam to the front, hold down "Ctrl", and select everything on the signal until the whole thing is a wireframe, then place it.
Mabye that will help ya out a little.

You did a real fine job on these, and they're a cinch to put together! (Unlike MLT's ones :( ) The lights on the gates look great, but I noticed that the big warning lights don't illuminate or flash? Yet - I could see a faint glimmer of red to them as I cruised by at the the rear of my train in #3 view. It's like they're masked with black paint or something? Is this the way they are, or did I do something wrong installing them? Should I set the top part to 'Animation ON'? I'm still a novice with all the programming stuff for MSTS.

But reallly look great so far, just miss those big red lights. ;)

Yeah , ya need to check the "animate this object" box. They will flash all the time, but its the only way they will work. Thats the only downside to them. The big lights are static objects and either they wont flash or flash all the time.

Ahhh, good to know. And that's alright if they're always flashing - I only will see them going by in a train anyways. ;) But much better than blacked out, that's for sure.

Thanks again John, and keep up the great work! :)

Thanks for the comment,I havent been feeling too good lately. The only 3d program i can halfway use is sketchup ,but you cant animate with it. I could make my own signals, but if you wanted gates or lights you would have to add them from Bruce's signals since they have extra light units and gates. I added a link thats got some really cool signals on it, I dont know it they were made or freeware or what but i like them. See ya.
