How can I make a set of railcar trucks as a static object for my route, or can someone create that for me so I can use?

Ernie,

There’s a good chance I’m wrong on this… but I was of the mind that there were some trucks available in the file library. I went looking myself, didn’t have a lot of time, and I didn’t turn anything up.
Maybe someone else can steer you.

Have a sparkling day.

Bob,
There is some trucks in the library that is in TGA format, I can switch them over to an ace file, but how do I go by getting a shape file out of that? what program do I use to do that part?

An easy way:
1. Get Train Sim Modeler
2. Download Ted Curphey's ff_fred.zip
3. Open his trucks and couplers into TSM, and knock the couplers off.
4. Export

Then you have trucks, and the ACE.

You can't use Ted Curphey's trucks with either of those programs. You can use the ff-hardware.ace, though. You will have to find some dimensions of the trucks, then build and texture them in Gmax. Sketchup is, as I understand, better for buildings and simple shapes, rather than round shapes and things that get tricky.

If you haven't done it already, then go through Volker's Gmax tutorial, and build the locomotive there a couple times. Not because it is a have-to-have locomotive, but it'll help you understand Gmax.
