For one reason or another it takes me forever to unzip files lately.
I need one of you computer geniuses to tell whats going on.
Thanks

Yes, it use to unzip files in seconds, even large files, now it takes a long time. I downloaded a new route today and it was going to take over 2hrs. to unzip.

Have you added or changed any anti-virus, firewall or anti-spyware to your system?

Frank,
I had a similar problem with Norton A/V, which by the way is a huge memory user. It affected all unzipping programs. What I would try is to download WinZip or one of the other unzipping programs and see if that solves the problem. The only other thought is that you may have a lot of other programs running in the background. I would check and see what else is loading and try closing as many as possible to see if that helps. Maybe someone else will have additional suggestions for you.

1. When did you defrag last prior to the other day?
2. How large is your hard drive?
3. How much free space is available on the drive?
