I have a file that is downloaded and it say that I need to create a new consist. I am new to all this stuff so how do I do it. I know that I need to go to the activity editor but after that I'm lost.

Thanks,
Rob

The easiest way to create a consist is to use ConBuilder, either CB Lite from the F/L or payware version. Much easier than using the AE.

For a step by step guide on creating consists go to:

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeqmf3a/index.html

and click on the ConBuilder Guides.

This was written using an older version of CB, but I doubt if the main screen has changed much.

Or you can use the Consist Editor from the Activity Editor.

I would recommend the donationware version of Conbuilder,
you will find it very helpful.
Also if you do not have Route Riter, download it, you will find both invaluable in overcoming issues that result in MSTS not working.

Some downloads in the file library are full of errors, this is okay for long time users but newbys like us need all the help we can get.

You are learning well, Daniel!

There is no donationware version of Conbuilder. There is a freeware CB-Lite, which allows you to build consists but not much else, a previously freeware full-version Conbuilder, which performs checks on all your files and has a lot of needed functionality, and the latest payware version of Conbuilder, which is an update of the full version and worth every penny!!!!

There is a freeware and a donationware version of Route-Riter, where the donationware version unlocks many of the rolling stock optimizing features of the program.

I also recommend a freeware program called Train Store, which makes MSTS only load the minimum amount of content required, adding stability to the game.

It's not okay for us long-time users either, we just know the workarounds. (And we all need all the help we can get!)
