I recently downloaded the WAG route, did the installme.bat and the route is not showing up when I go to start MSTS. Does anyone know a solution to getting this route to work?

Hi,

Did read there was an issue with having no activity with the route. You can open the route in Route Editor, select "new", then the route and create a simple activity with a path from end to end just to get the route to open. You would be able to use the activity or go into explore mode.

Brian and Lee,

Do both of you have Xtracks installed, as well as a recent Tsection?

I have x-tracks, but does it require newroads?

Those two are separate installs, and not dependant on each other. However, a particular route may need them both.

While each of those has included the most recent Tsection for the time, there have been upgrades since then. If the route was built on a newer Tsection, and has some of those new pieces, then it will need a newer tsection than what was included with the expansion packs.

Tsection.zip is always the current version in the library. It may not be the solution, but it definitely won't hurt you.

For what it's worth, my Tsection for the WAG route is build 32, I think they are up to 36 or 37.

Ok after getting xtracks and newroads, the Wellsville Addison & Galeton route is workin now. For all you route developers, keep this in mind. Make sure the readme includes what is required for the route. Otherwise you'll leave train sim fans, like myself, in the dark trying to figure out why the route won't work.

I spent an hour trying to figure out why WAG wouldnt work for me, the author should have included also that it required some of the other MSTS routes be installed..

For those having installation troubles with WAG, W&A and other routes:

Some of the route specifications and requirements (X-Tracks, New Roads, Kosmos, etc.) may be listed not in the README file but in the File_ID.DIZ which is the description you read in Train-Sim's listings. It will open with WordPad just like Readme.txt.

And many, perhaps most, route builders use INSTALLME.BAT to reduce the size of the route download. After the route is unzipped, but before it will run, you have to run this batch file, which copies files from the six default routes. Therefore, installing routes like this require that the six default routes be available. If this is your first freeware route download, the use of Installme.bat may be a surprise.

There are a few good solutions available if you don't want the six default routes in your route directory, but need them for new route installs. Train Store is the obvious solution, and is highly recommended; I think there's a way for Route Riter to accomplish the task. And you can always manually move the default routes from some "hidden" location to their "normal" location in the ROUTES folder when you want to do a route install.....just hide them again when you're done.
