I seem to have the worst luck with downloading news routes. The only route I've been able to successfully download is the CSX W&A.

First, I installed the CR Indy Line. Plenty of work there, and after fixing a few glitches, I managed to get it to run, but when I approached the first road, it crashed because of a shape file. "Failed to open: Global\Shape\CI_1WRd2l500r10d.s", then it said "No extended shape file" and "shape file failed to load" for the aformentioned file name. I went into my shapes folder and that file is there. I do have NewRoads and XTracks installed.

After installing the SAL FL Div, and fixing a few glithes in there, as well, I hit a wall when the sim failed to open terrtex\OEFarmplot.ace, which I'm thinking is a file unique to that route. Same deal with the CSX Florida Funnell Route. That file was terrtex\scrubconquart.ace. Any ideas on how to fix these?

Now, I like to think I know what I'm doing. I managed to get all the files in the right spot for the CR Indy Line and copy and paste some files that were missing to make the route work...Now, I have to wonder how in the world the people do it, who have absolutely no clue how to do that kind of stuff. I did install RouteRiter, and my God...I have no clue how to work it...I suppose that's another topic...

Thanks for any insight...

Yes, the usuall multi-spanned-store-copy-paste install. Pretty frightening fpr the novice user.

Wanna try an easy 2 click install? Try the NECv4.
I made it especially easy and simple for the inexperienced user.
No copy paste, or any of that easy-to-screw-up stuff. Just download it (~30Mb or so) to anywhere you want. After download just open up the zip file (no need to even unzip it!) and click on the executable which will then do it's thing and then automatically run the install-me.bat file.

Route Riter? Did you read the very extensive help file?

Hello Bobby,
OEFarmplot.ace is a TerrTex file found in the Europe2 route TerrTex folder. scrubconquart.ace is a TerrTex file found in the USA1 route TerrTex folder. I don't have these routes, so I'm not sure how they are being used. I would start by placing the files in the appropriate Routes\TerrTex folder. If you still receive the error message, copy the files into the appropriate Routes\Textures folder.

For the "Failed to open: Global\Shape\CI_1WRd2l500r10d.s" On my version of the Conrail Indy 2 route, this file is located in the ConrailIndy 2\Shape folder.

Take care,
Rich S.

'Failed to open' doesn't usually mean the files aren't there - if they were missing you would get 'Failed to find'. Check and I suspect you will find the files are there - and if you check any new route with Routeriter before running it you would find out if anything was missing, and find suitable replacements if they are available elsewhere in your MSTS installation.

What 'Failed to open' usually means is that your computer isn't running fast enough to keep up with the demand to load files. The main limiting factor seems to be the speed of your hard disk (SATA are much better) and the available memory.

You can do a lot to sort this out without changing your hardware - the simplest is to lower your settings in MSTS Options, but you might well be able to keep high settings by running activities/explore through Easy Trainstore and especially by installing the Bin patch.

Hello Bobby,
I forgot to mention that the shape definition file (CI_1WRd2l500r10d.sd) is also located in the Conrail Indy 2 route folder, not in the Global folder. If you haven't already, I would suggest upgrading to the Conrail Indy 2 route (filename: cr_indy2.zip) It adds new scenery, car spawner's, the EL tower at Marion, etc...

Hope this helps,
Rich S.

Many routes that you download are incomplete when you install the route from the zipped files included. Such routes require that all six original routes that come with MSTS must reside within the ROUT ES folder. Some installed routes do not have clear instructions as to how you go about completing the installation.

In many cases, you have to go to the new route named folder that you have created either by moving the new route to the main ROUTE folder or unzipping the files directly into the main ROUTE folder. Now you must look for a file with the suffix .bat. Usaually this file is named install.bat or ezstuffit.bat or something along those lines.

You then double click the .bat file and it will immediately begin copying files from the six original routes into your newly installed route.

If you fail to run this file, you will find numerous missing files which will be identified by MSTS as you try to run the route.
