Hi,
I have not installed the Bin update yet. Will activities created prior to Bin still work?
I like many of my activities, and I don't want to goof them up.
Is there anything else that will not work from the pre-bin days that anyone knows about?
Thanks.

In the process of updating the Cascade and Northwestern vr (www.vcnwrr.com) to Bin standards, our Bin team discovered that you must open any pre-Bin activity in the AE on an MSTS installation that has the Bin patch installed and do a save. This can be accomplished by making a small change such as a season to another season and then back to the original. This will make the save section of the File dropdown menu active. Click on save and the activity will conform to Bin parameters. If you do not do this some weird things will happen like the F4 displaying weird figures and grade crossing traffic will not stop for downed gates and random crashes. If effects the player path the most. Doing the above steps will line the activity up with how Bin does things in the sim. You should also read other threads in this forum on coupler regions as you should upgrade them to the standards of Otto Wipfel's mp3Kcons filefrom his website as well as notations by Joe Morris and myself. The Bin patch works flawlessly with the coupler regions we have found and actually mirror rw coupler reactions to slack and coupling speeds regarding how the pins fall when coupled at various speeds. It's a little work to get things lined up for the Bin patch but the results are well worth it. It's like a whole new sim with the patch.

Actually, all you have to do is open any location event in the activity and close it back. This will allow a save.

Or you could just click Save as, Save and Yes.

I've heard this one before, but I'm not getting that at all. Every activity I have from pre-BIN works fine without doing anything to it.

Same here.....so far.

Our activities are very intense with a high number of cars as well as detailed player paths. We found that sometimes the player path strays from what was originally in the preBin activity. The biggest problem we encountered is when pulling your train thru large yard switch ladders. The switches tend to line themselves under the train when you stop and change directions. Doing a save fixes this problem. Also at times the F4 monitor will start to show some real weird speed readings and some crossings on heavy tiles will have the raod traffic run the gates and other odd things. On simper activities they seem to work without doing a save but the heavier the route and tile and more switches the train is sitting on the more the problem shows up. It's a simple fix doing a save on a Binned MSTS installation to eliminate frustrations. These problems have been extensively tested and found to be true in our situations. Your mileage may vary.

Jim, another contributing factor for us is the amount of close proximity and non-90 degree level crossings complicated by being in the same area for an extended period of time where the auto traffic is just itchin' to get across there. ;-) Not sure why, but resaving them seems to help in this situation.
