As a route builder, I realized 3 things last week: 1) I hate having to go through all of the dirt road pieces to find the piece I need, I.E., having to go through and click on each "DirtRoad2Lstrt*m.s", until I come to "DirtRoad2Lstrt10m.s", which was the piece I needed. (The File name was truncated by the placement window) 2) To rename the dirtroad pieces in the route and tsection.dat file would cause release problems, and 3) I have the ability to edit the Train Sim Editor. So this is what I came up with.

Upon further review, I decided to spiff it up a bit, and colored in the mode buttons in RE.

To get this to work on your system:Make a copy of the dialog.dll file (rename to dialog.dll.bak), then download and copy this file to the "[Root]\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\" directory.

If your wondering what this has to do with MSTS Bin, I have the latest revision, and this file could be superceeded by the next release.

Hi Cody !

The Placement window has been enlarged by MSTSBin and I would not recommend replacing it's Dialog.dll or String.dll with any others !

MSTS has lost it's 'excitement' has it.

I guess you need to look for the route from that 'special' site... Look for the Viagra route (not Niagara). I understand it is a boring route though, all straight track with no dips, droops or sags. I hear most activities do take a few hours though. ;-)

OTTO and Cody,
If I remember correctly, if you install MSTSbin 1.6 with the transparent dialog boxes, you get the small placement window. If you do not install the transparent dialog boxes you get the large placement window, at least that what happened in my case.

Take care,
Rich S.

Hours??? I always ran my activities with Acela...no more then 5 to 10 minutes! Did you hear about the Levitra Route? Plenty of tunnel action! Gary, that was great for a laugh.

Rich, thanks for the inputs, but my dialog boxes are not transparent. Hmm...it must be a fluke or somethin...no biggie. I saw a problem, and I took care of it.

MSTSBin 1.6.1 no longer installs the dialog.dll & string.dll files automatically and have to be manually COPY/PASTE from the installed Translated DLLs \EN folder into the Train Simulator folder of the the MSTS copy MSTSBin 1.6.1 has been installed into !

The larger placement box is great but now that it can hold and display so much the lack of a sort is a bit of a problem.

Can George add a sort key on the frame w/ a simple sort function and re-display?

Sure would help.

Hi Dave !

I have been pondering over this "Sort" question for years now and once imported all the then Xtracks file names into a spreadsheet to see what can be done. But without renaming them all in a more uniform and organized fashion, suitable for indexing into sortable entries, sorting the existing file names was not possible.

But once in the Tracks Sections listing window, if you mouse click in it's window and forinstance type N[/b] it will take you to the first line starting with it !

Now that the enlarged window can show 20 last used lines and can store up to 60 last used entries, clicking on one of them and then on More will take you straight to it's place in the listings.

Otto, the request is to do a simple alphanumeric sort of the rows using the values present (left to right), of whatever happens to be in the new, enlarged window -- the one labeled PLACEMENT. What's there is not sorted... at least not by any sort rule I see. And once you get 15-20+ entries there it gets hard to find the one you used recently.

Yes Dave, that could be possible, perhaps sorted the same way as the "Sort by Name" you get when clicking on the Explorer files Name column header ?

Not sure though ! George is able to amend the existing binary source code but can not add new functions lines to the source code, which would require a re-compile of it which he can not do.

Will mention it nevertheless !
