View Full Version : Problem with new version of Bin
Hi,
I've been using the previous versions of Bin with no problem.
I installed the latest version and since then I have been unable to get MSTS to start.
This is what I have done so far.
Uninstalled old version of Bin
I then installed the new version. No joy - started getting can not add car to world errors.
I uninstalled it. I then re-installed MS update.
I have re-installed the latest version of Bin. I have copied and pasted the dll files into the train sim folder.
I am still having no luck whatsoever. I have tried activities with very few cars as well. It seems to be almost back to where it was pre-bin.
The send/don't send error reads the following:
AppName: train.exe AppVer: 1.16.5.912 ModName: train.exe
ModVer: 1.16.5.912 Offset: 0031bfe1
When the game is starting it tells me that it is allocating anything from 30mb to 50mb.
I have had no previous problems with MSTS Bin.
The only thing I can think of is that I might have had a problem with uninstalling the last version of Bin and whether this is somehow still causing me to have problems.
Cheers
Dan

Mine tells me it is allocating between 175 and 180 megs of resources. Your doesn't seem to be allowing the sim to have very much resources. I don't have an answer but I thought you would like to know what is being allocated on another comp that is working fine with the Bin Patch.
Thanks. So it seems like it isn't allocating enough memory.
It seemed a bit low so I shut down everything else that I was running - ie internet, skype etc but it came in even lower.
I didn't have this problem with previosu versions of bin.

Hi Dan !
This 1.6.1223 MSTS Memory allocation addition seems to have had mixed effects on some computers which are using much of their RAM because of many programs running.
One solution George suggests is to increase the Virtual Memory SWAP file for the C: drive and for the installed MSTS drive if different to C: ! This is what I use for my drive G: MSTS: 1536 Mb MIN and 3072 MAX.
To be sure you have a clean MSTSBin 1.6.1223 install delete the MSTSBIN_BACKUP folder and the Uninst_MSTS Patch*.* files and install the 1.6.1223 patch again, not forgetting to COPY/PASTE the Translated DLLs\EN\*.dll files into the Train Simulator folder !

Hi Otto,
Can you walk me through what I need to do to make this change.
At the moment it is on my C drive along with all of my other program files.

Well, this is what I'm getting now after I removed the latest patch and refer back to the 1.6.1223. I get this "Send/Don't Send" and so I clicked on to view the details and this is what I get. I have followed instructions and now I am lost in this. Cannot start the game for any reason. I have run mpprofile and dxdiag and no avail. My MSTS is installed on my SATA drive "F."

Ken:
Try this...uninstall all versions of the patch, make sure the MSTSbackup and translation folders are deleted. Install the Microsoft 1.2 trainupdate (this should change your train.exe back to 2001 versions) and then see if MSTS will start.

I am having problems to. The latest patch is allocating 51 megs of memory and I am getting tons of "failure to load messages" that I was not getting before. I uninstalled and went back to the previous version and I am having no problems. I was even having problems in the Activity Editor with the new patch. It would load slow and I had trouble viewing consists when I would go to edit an activity. I have 512 megs of system memory ( yes, I know I should have at least 1 gig of memory), and 128 megs of graphics memory and I am running XP home edition on a single harddrive. I could do so much more under the previous version.

I tried what you said and still no avail. I'm still getting black screen then the "S/DS" to M$. I hate to uninstall and reinstall MSTS. But this time, I'll have to do it. 5 years of stuff gone to waste! This is really pissing me off! x( x( The earlier version of the bin worked fine until this last version. x(

Could it be the Dash-9 files included with the latest patch don't like the previous version?

There has been an addition to the 1.6.1223 patch, supplying a XP version of it, allocating more of available RAM to users of MSTS under WIN-XP.
As for the DASH-9 files which are included in the patch, this is what George says about it:
Dash9 files are part of demo loco, don't use them for regular trainset. These files are only for study of lights and doors animations.

So just a straight forward uninstall current bin patch and then re-install new patch, copy and paste dll?
Hi Otto
Some instant feedback.
Some improvement - I have run MSTS twice and it has given me 68 and 72 mb.
However, this is not enough to run the activity I wanted to run so I still get can not add car to world errors.
The steps I have taken have been the following:
Uninstalled old non-xp Bin.
re-downloaded new Bin patch from site
Installed Bin-xp.
If there is any system information or other information that might help then let me know.

Hi Dan !
Installing the 1.6.1223 XP patch doubled the allocated for MSTS memory.
If your's does not then perhaps there is not enough of "Available Memory" for MSTS in the first place ?
O t t o
Well, I am not sure - since I had no problems whatsoever with the previous versions of Bin.
I have quite happily been running the same activities which I now can not run.

I'm getting problems with the new bin allocaiting memory also, yet I've done a clean install of it, shut every other back running program I had running, anti virus, internet, printer software, and any other parisite program that would take memory away, YET it still only allocates 35-70mb of ram. What gives, especially when my home pc has 3 gig of ram in it???!!

I gave a fresh reinstall of MSTS and added the patch from M$TS homepage, Then I reinstall the Bin 1.6.09223. I'm gonna stay where I'm at for now. Otto seems to have found the fix(in other thread; http://forums.flightsim.com/ts/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=32&topic_id=597&mesg_id=597&page= ) but, I'm gonna wait until the rest of you to see if you get it to work properly. It's looks like a lot of work but, I'll wait. I have XP Pro and my other machine has XP home but, it doesn't have the bin installed.

Hi Ernie !
Don't like the sound of that at all, the MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch allocating only 35-70 Mb for MSTS on a 3 Gb RAM WIN-XP computer ?
Can you check the Task Manager's Performance tab to see how much of that is available for programs !
O t t o
How do I check that?
Also, why is it an issue with this version of the patch and not previous versions?

Hi Dan !
To check how much RAM is available for programs press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the latter being the Decimal Point key on the numbers keypad and then select the Performance tab and you should see something like this:
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/up1/113949.jpg
Under "Physical Memory" you will see how much of it is "Available" !
The MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch is making sure that there is a certain minimum amount of RAM available for MSTS whereas before MSTS just used what it could dynamically. On some computers with insufficient installed RAM and other programs using some of that at the same time as MSTS caused problems when some complex activities needed more.
O t t o
Ok.
Physical Memory
Total: 456944
Available: 70960
System Cache 144160

Well I have run one activity with the new patch. When I started, it showed 250 mb of allocated memory. Not to bad on a 1 gb system.

There is your problem, 70 Mb of available RAM before you even started MSTS !
What in darnation is running on your computer using 380 Mb of RAM ?
O t t o
iexplore - 61,084k
explorer - 17,092
waol - 55.484
svchost 13, 820
Those are the 4 largest memory users on my comp at the moment.

Looks like you have a live connection to the Internet open, IEXPLORE and WAOL running in RAM and probably a Firewall and Virus checker too.
Shut them all down ! You do not need the Internet to run MSTS !
O t t o
I will give it a go :)

Dan,
Do you have End it All? It is a great utility to tame TSR's before running MSTS. I also shut down Outlook before I open MSTS. It really will slow the sim down each time it goes to check your mail site.
Hi,
I shut everything down and got allocated 149mb. This was certainly better (than when I was running it with other programs open) but the fps was no greater than with the previous patch.
I have seen no real improvement over the previous versions of Bin - but maybe that is just me.
Sharon - I don't have end it all. Could you tell me more please.
