View Full Version : AE does not work with XP patch

At least for me it doesn't. It worked using the regular version of the latest patch but when I install the XP version, I get a message when I try to open the AE saying a file is missing. The name of the missing file is not specified.

Anyone else experienced this?

I'm not getting any "file missing" messages, but now when I enter and exit AE I'm getting the old pre-1.4-update "No disc in drive" message. I just click "continue" and AE either loads or exits normally...annoying but not fatal.

Maybe there is something shifty going on between the XP patch and AE, but perhaps it's affecting different machines in different ways.

Hi

Did you install the two required .dll files? If not, that might explain why the editors won't run.

No problems opening activities using the MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch !

If MSTS announces that there is no CD in it's drive then that is telling you that you had a CD in the drive and then took it out before running MSTS. Re-boot your computer or put any CD into the drive.

If MSTS needs one of it's CDs it would say "Insert a MSTS CD" or words to that effect !

That was the first thing I checked. Do these .dll files affect only the editors?

Well, then maybe I need to try re-installing. I installed the new non-XP patch first and it worked fine. Then, after I found out the new XP patch existed, I uninstalled the non-XP patch and installed the new XP patch. I was able to run an activity just fine but when I went to run the AE, it would not open.

Try this:

Delete the MSTSBIN_BACKUP folder and the two Uninst_Patch*.* files in the Train Simulator folder and find a December 2001 V.1.2/1.4 Train.exe to replace the one installed by the 1.6. patch and then install the MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch, followed by copying the Translated DLLs\EN\*.dll files into the Train Simulator folder.

If that still does not work then there is something in that activity the 1.6.122319XP train.exe does not like !

Any other activities refusing to load in the AE ?

It's not one activity that is failing to load but rather the entire AE. I received the (rather strange) message that the installation failed and that I might need to re-install train.exe. Strangely, the sim itself worked fine and I was able to successfully run an activity using the XP patch. It was only the AE that refused to cooperate.

I'll try re-installing this evening.

I received the (rather strange) message that the installation failed and that I might need to re-install train.exe.

This message is telling you that the MSTSBin patch installer could not find a Version 1.2 (1.4) December 2001 Train.exe in the Train Simulator folder or that the previous MSTSBIN_BACKUP folder was still in the Train Simulator folder.

In either case doing what I suggested above should take care of all that !

If you do not have a copy of the December 2001 1.2 (1.4) train.exe then download the Train Simulator Version 1.2 update from the MSTS Download web site and install it into your Train Simulator folder before running the MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch !

Thanks, Otto, it seems to be working now! I'm not exactly sure what I was doing wrong but I think it had something to do with my mini-routes. I was trying to install the patch to my "MiniMaster" folder and then copy the new files over to my mini-routes. Apparently I was failing to copy something.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

Hi Otto
I just installed the new MSTS Bin xp patch and I am also having problems when I open AE. I get the no disc in drive error and tells me "There is no disc in drive. Please insert a disc into \device\harddisk3\ dr9" If I hit cancel or continue the AE will load. I tried your procedure of deleting the Bin backup folder and the 2 msts bin*.* files, copied back the train.exe file and reloaded the Bin xp and still get the same results..
I hope there is a fix for this as I am really pleased with this new one other than the AE problem. It has rectified the white void I had in a route I made..among other things

I would get this message even before the Bin patch. It was usually when my available resources on my comp was running low. The sim wants the disc to get the information instead of using resources to find it on the hard drive (I am only guessing here). But a reboot would always solve the problem. BTW I never start any real work or play on the sim without doing a complete reboot of my computer. I shut it donw, turn off the back switch and hold the front on button in for 10 seconds to drain all power from the RAM and then start it back up. Once everything is done loading, I trim everything off my bottom task tray except my antivirus and temp readings. I always open the sim to where I can move a train or move the 2D window, exit to desktop and go back in. The sim works smoother and faster and this is still true with the patch. Works everytime. My guess is your not getting much RAM allocated with that XP patch as the CD message is definetly a low resources sign.

Also remember that the AE must not be used unless your desktop settings is set to 16bit color instead of the nicer 32bit color. I never had to change that setting down to 16bit before Bin came along but that's OK. The other imporvements to the sim far far outweigh this little inconveniance.

I have never had this message before installing the new bin xp. I am running my desktop at 16 bit. I always reboot beforeI run train sim or AE
It tells me there is 858 mb memory for the sim when I start up
I am running a amd 64x23 3800 cpu. 10000 rpm sata drives on raid0.
Unless I am missing something I don't think it is a resource problem. I have also shut down everything on my task bar but I still get the message...

Hi Cecil !

There are two versions of this message, one specifically asking for a MSTS CD to be inserted and the other one says There is no CD in it's drive, or words to that effect.

The first one is caused by no MSTS Update Version 1.2 Train Simulator December 2001 Train.exe having been downloaded from the MSTS web site, without which MSTSBin will not install anyway !

The second one is caused by having removed any CD from it's drive, which was used and removed before MSTS was started. Insert any CD again or re-start WIN-XP.

Hi Otto
This is the message I get

"There is no disc in drive. Please insert a disc into \device\harddisk3\ dr9"

I have the msts patch as I have been using MSTS Bin for awhile now.
There hasn't been a cd im my drive for 4 days before I loaded MSTS Bin XP. I have tried rebooting but to no avail.I still get the message.
If I press cancel or continue in the error message AE will load.
I have tried putting a cd in the drive and then removing it ,rebooting but still get error message when loading AE.

This message:

There is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into device\harddisk3\ dr9

This appears not to be a CD drive but another data media drive, causing the same response as a missing in it's drive CD ?

What is harddisk3 ? Can you see it in My Computer or Windows Explorer ?

Hi Otto
I think I found the problem. I googled it and come up with my camera card reader. If I leave my camera card in the reader I don't get any error message.Tis a work around but not a fix. maybe george has some suggestions..

Hi Cecil !

Somebody else realized that it is a Card reader, but my son's permanently plugged in SanDisk does not cause any problems to MSTS on his WIN-XP Pro, SP-2 computer.

Plug your's in only when needed and you will get not more problems until after you have used it again, take out the card and run MSTS in the same computer session !

Could be that the driver for your card reader has installed it into the Registry in a manner to cause your MSTS problem ?

Whatever, George can do nothing about it because the Train.exe is not bothered by disks in media drives since Version 1.2 (December 2001) !
