Posting anything like that on the web site of the guy who in his own time is advancing MSTS to new levels without getting paid for it is the ultimate in Rudeness. MSTS forums he is a member of should ban him forthwith ! x(

MSTS Bin is the best thing to happen to this sim in a very long time. The author deserves support and encouragement and, where appropriate, constructive criticism. Simply claiming that "it doesn't work" is not helpful.

Let me throw in my two cents here. I went ahead and applied the latest patch on my Win XP Pro machine and it does work now. I do apologize for my rant in other thread the other day. Yes, I know there was a problem with the first patch of 1.6.9223 and now it's fixed. And for the person's name that Otto mentioned, He should explain why it doesn't work. He should give more information like his machine specs and what OS he has. "It doesn't work, Fix it!" doesn't justify anything or doesn't help the author.x( I would give George credits for improvements made for us and MSTS.:) He sure did gave a 5 year game a hell of a new life. Who needs the other new sims anyways? :)

Sorry guys, but I just flipped when I read his post and had this to say:

What does not work ?

Both the 1.6.122319 patches work for me and all others who have followed the previous patch un-install instructions and have copied their language "Translated DLLs" *.dll files into the Train Simulator folder.

And don't ever TELL people what to do and politely ASK, especially where George is concerned, doing all this in his own time and not getting paid for it

Zhenya responded: Seriously Jason, ask nicely. You sound like people owe you, but you are wrong, NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING!!!! GOT THAT?

I hope he gets the message ! The last thing we need is George getting upset like so many other add-creators in the past, no longer contributing to MSTS ! :-(

I agree. I have had problems with this version of the patch but they are largely on my own making!!!

However, if you want help then you need to be clear and concise about what you have done, and give those helping you as much information as possible.

This version of the patch installed fine for me, and I have not even noticed the shadow issue.

Jason had apologized and I am now trying to help him make his MSTS work again. ;-)

Demanding things gets you nowhere !

What these patches have done for MSTS have changed my whole outlook of the sim scene.I was just about fed up with the constant crashes, lowering of the sliders and not being able to use the add-ons when and where I wanted.

As far as the little issues,I sure can live with them in the bigger picture of things.

Hallo!
I think George deserves the MSTS Oscar 2006 because he made it possible for people like me not having a high end PC to enjoy the more and more realistic (but also resource demanding) route and rolling stock addons at a decent quality.

Keep on steamin'!

Hi !
I also have installed the latest XP version - it installed and runs flawlessly I might add - and I think George should be commended on his project of " THE BIN " . Most of us have had MSTS for about 5 years now and we've all struggled someway or another with it , but stuck with it and enjoyed it . George has opened up a whole new outlook on the Sim and with his many improvements and additions he has made a somewhat older horse run like a derby winner .
My thanks and appreciation to George and may he find and develope many more additions to MSTS. I know they will be welcomed by us all .
THANX AGAIN George !

Yes, I have to stand and give ovation to George for his work. I not only can now run my train thru the heaviest of areas on my favorite route with the sliders maxxed and all boxes checked, but I was even so brash as to throw a Big AI coming the other way in that same heavy area and the sim chugged right along at 17fps. I can now have two trains were one would barely get thru before with less slider/boxes checked.

I think some of the guys who say they don't have that big an improvement are not being quite fair. Yes some are having issues but I think it's more on how much other things their comp is doing behind their back eating up those valuable resources then the patch or the sim now. George has obviously changed the sim to calculate what you have available and to use it. If you have the ram and the sim is not using it then something else is. That's the truth of it. The sim does the same thing on every comp now. It looks for what there is available and allocates it. If you are onnly getting 35 to 50 megs allocated and you have 525 megs of ram or more, then something is running deep in your comp and hogging those resources.

Now here is where I think some are not fair. They say they run the game after installing the patch and it's allocating ram in the 200's or more. They say they see no fps improvement but what they are not saying is that they are now running with higher settings. In my book 15fps with sliders maxxed and all boxes checked where you had 15fps with sliders down considerably and less boxes checked especially the heavy hitters like dynamic shadows and spec lighting is a huge improvement. To be fair the comparison should be done with display settings before and after the same. Then notate the difference. Also I think Georges fps claims are based on the sim without any patch and the sim with the latest patch. Differences between patches will not be that great. It's the general progression of speed that has been introduced into the sim thru the various renditions of the patch that is significant.

I did take a subjective look at the latest XP patch using identical setting and testing the sim based on no patch/XP patch installed and the difference in so eye opening. It really is like a new sim. I then loaded things up to seehow far I could push it and I haven't had a single lock up yet. I know if I put 20 high detailed engines in an oncoming AI and I load my train up with 80 different cars and 10 high detailed engines, the sim will lock. But if I load it up following RW practices for the era, the sim now will no longer crash and die. It allows me to do prototypical things in my sim now with sliders maxxed. George has turned a no win game into a true winner. And we have this new game with all the cool freeware and payware items available. The new sims coming do not have that database. Think about it, then go play it.

DUDE, IT DOES WORK. YOU DON'T!

Correct ! After telling him to copy the Translated DLLs\EN files to where they are supposed to go, his MSTS is working again, him learning that politeness will get you almost anything ! ;-)

Take care, guys !

Like with all program code changes they invariable throw up new problems, the modifier of the code not being able to test all hardware and MSTS setup variations after every change.

So please keep reporting anything you find which is being passed on to George for his attention.

He is already taking care of the missing Backspace emergency brake and there is also a report that the mouse-right-click in the #7 view is not working I can not check, not having a route here which has a Yard view I am aware of.

HAPPY NEW YEAR soon, guys, so don't drink and drive ! ;-)

Take care, O t t o
