Happy New Year to the Group - I am just a simmer. I don't do any fancy cab switching, building, re-skinning or anything else. I just run trains! Now, from what little I've read about this new Bin, I would like to know exactly what it will do for me. I just read on the Vally Pass forum that it eleminates the GWV. That's great, but what else will it do for me? What will I loose or have to do different? In otherwords, should I get it and will I like it????? All input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim in the PI

Hi Jim !

Start by reading all about it here: http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/eng/eng.html

and then browse this MSTSBIN forum and that of the UK-Trainsim forum.

There have been many MSTSBin improvements, the most important being that all couplers front and back now work as they should, using the appropriate settings in *.end and *.wag files and you can now change driving other locos in the same consist and after uncoupling them drive them as the new Player and much, much more.

Driving a trainset in the opposite direction from it's rear engine's rear cab, with all controls working like in the front cab of the lead engine, is a new experience, simulating real railway practice, etc, etc.

Hello Jim,
Since downloading and installing MSTSbin, it's like having a new simulator :) Some of the things I've found using MSTSbin are:

*Trucks on engines now swing the correct direction when the engine is reversed.

*The F9 Consist window's icons now display if the engines are diesel or steam and show which way the engines are facing.

*You can use the F9 Consist window to switch to another loco as long as it has a cabview, ie cannot switch to a AI unit.

*Estimated speed in the Track Monitor window now correctly displays the estimated speed and does not jump about like it did before MSTSbin.

*You now have more control over the #4 external view as far as positioning of the camera.

*You can zoom the #2 camera view out to a distance of 500 meters.

*Since installing MSTSbin AI trains load faster. Before Bin I could tell everytime an AI train loaded, the sim would freeze for a moment.

*Front couplers on engines now work correctly.

These are just some of what I've noticed since installing MSTSbin.

Take care,
Rich S.

Hi Jim !

Make sure you read this before installing the WIN-XP MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch:

OK Guys and Gals, here's the problem. The install won't work because it says something like this "train.exe not valid previous version etc." and lets me re-do the things it did. I am using the new patch for XP from the website. I see train (application) in the root folder near the bottom. What next?

Go to the MicroSoft website and get the V1.2 upgrade. the one that gives you the SD40 and caboose. The Bin patch requires this one and only upgrade release from Bill to be installed on your sim. You know the funny thing, George has released more upgrades to this sim in two months then MSoft did in it's carreer. Also he has accomplished more with any one of his upgrades then MSoft did with their only one.

I already installed the 1.2 upgrade from MS sometime ago, and I still get the "previous version" error. This is the first time i've attempted to install MSTSBin.

Why am I getting the error despite the fact that I have installed the V1.2 upgrade?

Check your Train simulator folders. Make sure that there is not one called MSTSBIN_BACKUP. If there is, delete it.

Beer is not a matter of life and death. It is much more serious than that.

Also make sure that the train.exe in your Train Simulator folder has a December 2001 date before installing the MSTSBin 1.6.122319XP patch !!!

Happy New Year to the Group - I got the Bin and it's really fantastic. I've only run one activity and checked out a couple of consists, and this thing is great! Thanks for all your help and input.
