If you have you color display set to 32 bit change it to 16 bit and that will solve the problem. For some reason the AE and RE won't run long and will gcrash if the color display is set to 32 bit. Let me know how you fair.

Claude,
Thanks for the advice, but it didn't help. It still stopped cold after 2 minutes... no send/don't send or nothing... it just STOPPED!!!! Completely unresponsive to everything except Ctrl+Alt+Del.
I've NEVER had this happen before, and I've been using RE for about 4 years now. Is it something to do with MSTSBin? I uninstalled that, and reinstalled the MSTS V1.2 patch straight from MSTS.

I haven't had any problems with the AE or RE after installing the BIN. I'm not sure what could be causing your problems.

Hello Bruce,
What MSTSbin version are you using? When you installed MSTSbin, did you choose the transparent option? I have the current MSTSbin, installed with the transparent option which allows more items in the placement window. Did you install the MSTSbin XP version?
Take care,
Rich S.

Yes, I sure did.
I finally ended up just going back and re-installing MSTS out of the box (after backing up all my add-on routes and rolling stock, of course!).
A shame, because I was really looking forward to all of the improvements...

Hi Bruce !
Re-installing MSTS from CDs is the last option you should consider and when given specific advice report back if it did not work.
There is nothing wrong with any of the MSTSBin patches, but if you don't read all of the instructions errors will appear.

Otto,
I don't appreciate being talked to like an idiot... I don't think anyone else does either.
For the record, I AM using MSTSBin 122319 XP. I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clear enough on that. I thought everyone understood that as that's the current version.
So, back to the real question... why does RE stop dead after just a couple of minutes? It either stops altogether, or suddenly disappears(no error message of any kind).

Sorry, if that is how you read my advice and comments ! But anybody re-installing MSTS at the drop of the hat makes me wonder and until I get answers to diagnostic questions can only make assumptions.
Anyway, as far as you are concerned I shall refrain from doing so in future !

Has anyone else heard of a problem of this sort?
I'm using MSTSBin 122319 XP, by the way.

Well, I have downloaded the same version, but haven't installed it and after reading some of these questionable things, I think I will stay with my tried and true, if somewhat yucky, out of the box version.
I may install Bin on my non-production MSTS and see if it improves it or not, but hanging up the RE is a serious matter.

Never had any problems with the latest XP bin in the Route Editor. Everything runs smooth here.

Hello Jerry,
I've been running the current version of MSTSbin without any problems in the RE. The one thing I do like is how many items you can have in the placement window. I'm starting to wonder if some of the bin problems might be processor specific? This is just a guess on my part, remembering some of the problems from the days of 286's and 386's (yes I know I'm a old school programmer from the days of DOS and COBOL)
Take care,
Rich S.

Hello Bruce
Did you copy the two replacement .dll language files? These are both used by the Route Editor. It's an installation step that's easily overlooked.

It could be processor specific. Mine is a Athlon, 1.9G, dual core, with 1G of memory, a 512Mbt. video card (Nvidia), and I use XP-Pro. I haven't had any problems with this set up, and I am not sure that I want to risk using BIN until the bugs are squashed a bit more.

Hi Taylor !
Well Otto, since you seem to be the self-proclaimed BIN know it all, shouldn't you have a solution to it?
Hardly "Self-Proclaimed" but well versed in it, having been working with George since the first release of MSTSBin and helping many with making it work ! Do an "Advanced" search for Author OTTODAD in this and other forums and you might learn something !
If not, then doesn't reinstalling MSTS to fix the problem for the time being make sense, at least until there is a known solution to the problem?
If you got a leak in your bathroom do you try to find it and stop it or do you tear down the house and rebuild it ?
Guys with your sort of mentality probably would ! ;-)
As far as a MSTSBin patch not working is concerned, simply un-install it and you are back to your previously fully working MSTS !
Might be a good idea for guys with your approach to read all there is on the subject in the forums !

"Self-Proclaimed" BIN expert.
Personal remarks like these are not welcome in these forum. Posters would like solutions to their problems and not read about your opinions of others !

working MSTS !
Yeah, and that would stop the RE from crashing, wouldn't it?
Yes it would if the RE did not crash before installing a MSTSBin patch and if it did then the problem lies elsewhere and can not be identified by re-installing MSTS.
Do you re-install WINDOWS every time something does not work as it should on your computer after installing software, hardware or drivers for ?

Why the 'attitude' BNlover..???
It isn't deserved in any way and doesn't help other people.
Ottodad has the done the most to help people with the teething problems of Bin and has been dealing with the 'creator' since the beginning..so he does know more than the rest of us.
Aren't you lucky that he spends a lot of his time helping you and others.
A thank you would be more appropriate than cheap and puerile sarcasm..!!

After installing MSTSBin, I've found that the Route Editor runs for five minutes at most before hitting a brick wall... no "send/don't send", or anything like that. It just freezes, and the menu bar and control windows all turn solid white. It didn't seem to do this before, and uninstalling MSTSBin doesn't seem to help much.
What causes this?
I'm running an AMD Athlon 1800 XP, Win XP, and 512MB Ram (it's an old machine, I know...)
