Ok look... everyone is posting stuff like the MSTS-X is going to be an update!! Seriously.. it is going to be a new simulator, all this talk of codes.. like for instance I jsut read a post that was talking about the signal not being visable for more than one mile... so it started to say that if the codes can blah blah balh balh blah... we havnt seen these codes.. or sound files, or any other files... ok look.. here is the thing... this is going to be all new, oither than what we know of FlightSim-X because it is going to be based on the same type of "coding" or whatever you want to call it... acting like this is an update is just..... stupid... however posting your ideas about the new sim comming out is another... Microsoft has sucsessfully made a flight sim that (from what I have heard) real pilots like... so why wouldnt they go to the same extent for engineers?? everything they are writing is basicly from scratch, other than it being based off the same tech that flight-sim X is of coarse.

P.S. I must admit I have been a little irritable tonight, I am not mad or anything haha, it jsut seems, dumb... please reply.. I'll read them.. I really dont know what I am talking about even, this is all jsut from what I have heard

I hear you RedDeath, and I know what you're saying. I think the main concern with me and many others is 'compatibility' for their investments and/or hardwork over the years with MSTS. Having been a Z scale modeler to near fanatical extents in the 90's, I was intrigued to see MSTS come out. Thinking it was going to be a 'slight amusement' outside of my 'serious Z scale', it has now totally consumed me. Of course it runs better, looks better, sounds better than Z scale could ever do... Yet, I look back on the amount of money and time I spent with Z scale - thousands of dollars and hours. And it sits with an alarming amount of dust upon it, and is now just a pitiful display of optimism and hope gone died. :( So even though I'm immersed in MSTS, I've probably bought and downloaded a small iota of goods for it compared to most people here. And I do enjoy Route Editor for adjusting and changing scenery - as irksome as it is sometimes. But things are finally starting to look good for me. 3rd party developers are getting the hang of it, and going BEYOND expectations of MS I'm sure. From super detailed scenery, and sounds, to utilities like Route Riter and MSTSBIN.

So even though when MSTS X is released - a year from now, or two, or a decade... I'm sure our good ol' MSTS will be as much in use, if not more so by then. And although MSTS can't 'gather dust, and take up space' like a model railroad can - still the same 'optimism and hope' can die along with it. And yes, I'm sure MSTS X will be TONS better than what we currently have and develop today. I'm just as sure we all will go at it as a 'slight amusement' at first. But whether we know it or not, our subconcious knows 'the human condition' that will eventually ween us away from MSTS, and our love and labour for it with a melancholic tear in our eyes. ;)

Yes, good points from both of you !

But if MSTS-X is going to be as good as we all hope then there will be little to do for guys like me who get more fun, pleasure and satisfaction out of fixing and modifying MSTS stuff then just running routes ! ;-)

That was one my problems with my Märklin-H0 and Gauge-1 layouts. You can not really change them every week and after a while gets boring running the same trains on the same track layouts.

I too got hooked on MSTS and it's variety, mostly freeware and sold my digital layouts and rolling stock, which cost me over $ 20000 !

True... but in a way... all are hard work proved to Microsoft or passion for msts and compleled them to make an all new one, so in a way all the things that we have all done for msts will not be forgoten... kind of like a steam locomotive being replaced by diesel... the diesel will be better, the steam locomotive we all have to eventually realize is obsoleet, and because of all the hardwork we have put into improving our steam locomotives has not gone unoticed, and because our railroading is so popular, they are comming out with a diesel to improve our railroading.. its not like we are starting over.. think about it... having to help improve the improvment :) its not like everything will be PERFECT on msts... we'll still need some locomotives, and routes, and updates and fixes.. everyone can help do their part.. however.. thee point of this reply is that we have not gone unoticed :)

god.. we got to post this like everywhere LOL!!! I wrote that sooo good lol

Is that Trainz 2004 ?

I wish it were and could have saved me a lot of money, also letting me drive trains from inside their cabs.

I bit of a problem trying to squeeze into one of those locos cabs. :7

Take care, O t t o.

True as well, and I agree Red Death. (BTW - Nice layout Otto!) Just to go back to the model trains scenario for a moment (and Otto will enjoy this too...) I had started with a Lionel O27 set as a child. A simple circle of track pretty well, because I lived in a apartment. As I got older, HO seemed more reasonable. But as I progressed with sidings and structures, I was limited to living space. Then along comes N scale. Now THIS is the perfect scale for an apartment! But I started discovering incompatibilities with couplers and transformers, and cheaper quality for smaller scale. By this time, I was graduating high school and got preoccupied with jobs, girls, and the future. After a short stint with a TV show, I made A LOT of money (for a young person that is - in the olden days. ;) ) So I wanted to buy something 'executively classy' to show my pomp off.
Marklin Z was the ticket... Smallest in the world! Precision German Quality! Limited Editions, and all that. Just a simple circle of track on my mahogany desk, or maybe one of those 'briefcase layouts'
(Well ahead of 'laptop railroading!). But the more 'success' I had, the more train stuff I bought. Modest, but expensive! Even when the 'success' was over, I was like a junkie. But then I noticed 'Marklin' wasn't the only Z game in town. I discovered Micro-Trains, Architectural Model Suppliers, Railex, and utimately Ajin Brass models... Marklin looked and worked like pitiful N scale cheapo's now. I will amass a fleet of the finest brass Z scale models with a musuem quality prototypical layout... Brooohahahaha!
- And while I'm at it, I'll get this Train Sim software.

So the moral of that little story is 'The Pope That Would Be King - will still get de-throned at some point'. Meaning (now I sound like Soupy Sales...) even if we bow to Microsoft for their miraculous TS, and await like prarie dogs for this 'X' to swoop upon us... Eventually someone 'out of the blue' will surprise us all - and make Microsoft and Kuju and Trainz et al look like Brio, Atlas, and Bachman... A holographic train simulator by Nintendo, a HDTV 6 channel compatible Train Sim by Texas Instruments (they're due I'd say). And soon as we say 'It can't get better than this!' - it will. ;)

Or maybe, we might just give up on software altogether, and go back to something like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeS_U9qFg7Y

yes I totally agree.. someone will swoop up on MS or Kuju, but who knows when... we have done pretty close to all we can do with this pathitic simulator lol.. I really doubt that microsoft will make the same mistake as they did with this one.. I mean, we are all more likly to buy it if its a lot more realistik, and thats all companys really care about is money lol.. if they build a damn good sim, people will buy it, if the sim is worthless.. then why not jsut stay with MSTS?? I think they MUST realize that lol... its like... if the customer has money, he is right lol

P.S. I have money :)

We have done pretty close to all we can do with this pathetic simulator lol..

I would not call MSTS "Pathetic" and with the addition of MSTSBin is still the best Train Simulator there is, making creating routes like these and the SEAVIEW-4 possible ! ;-)

Pathetic isn't a good thing to say about MSTS. If you feel that way then why do you still have eit? I tell you what, I fried my laptop last month, since you don't like it, you feel it's "Pathetic" then why don't you put yourself out of the pain and send me your complete system. I have a lot of files I want to dump into it.

RedDeath5

yes, perhappes pathetic wasnt the right word.. limited is better.. MSTS is great, but even when we have done all we can, it will still be messed up in some way.. like for example, the release of the Cotten Belt 819 (BEAUTIFUL MODLE) they had to make two engine files, 1 so that it would be realistic for smaller, and not highspeed.. and another so that you could pull 100 cars at 100mph.. now, I dont edit eng files much (other than the sound sorce and cabview sorce), I am more of an SMS editer.. but, why couldnt MSTS-X be able to have realistic propertys no matter what the speed or legnth of freight? So that way we can have the 819 and not have to choose which locomotive to use, the highspeed version, or the more realistic lesser speed version.. and like I said a million time before, MSTS-X will open sooooo many more doors to make it more realistic.. and now with bin, there isnt much left to do, so then why not have a better looking sim with new problems (but most likly starts at where we left off on MSTS (problem wise) so then we have another door open to dig deeper into the sim and make the most realistic train driving experiance yet :).. if that makes any sence) isnt that 60% of the fun is fixing the sim? I know i spend muost of my time not playing it.. but making my sim experiance better :)
