View Full Version : TS does not recognize keyboard input

Hi,

I have recently reinstalled Train Simuator after a long time, mostly because I have recently purchased a new computer (running on Windows Vista). Unfortunately, I ran into a problem.

TS appears to run well, except that it does not recognize input from my keyboard: pressing a key simply does nothing. I initially thought it was an in-game issue, but I am also unable to reassign keys in the options menu. Again, pressing a key simply does nothing. Please note though, that the game does appear to run fine otherwise. It does not freeze, as clicking menus is still working, both in-game as well as in the options menu.

I've been trying to find solution on the forums, but the solutions that are offered do not appear to help. I tried both starting the game as an administrator as well as running it in compatibility mode (I tried each and everyone).

Any help in getting TS to recognize keyboard input would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I missed the solution somewhere, in that case I'm sorry. A pointer in the right direction would still be very welcome of course... :-)

Thanks!

edit: I placed this post in the wrong forum, my apologies. It should have been posted in the Microsoft Train Simulator forum.

I understand how you feel. I had the same experience a little while ago. I tried using a spare keyboard to no avial.

Sooooooooooo! I tried re-installing Train Simulator and voila, that solution worked. I'm in full control again.

Try it.

I wish that would work for me as well. :-( I have reinstalled it about four or five times by now, but still nothing. What I just don't understand is why all appears to work fine, except the keyboard recognition. That's what's strikes me.

Do you have a standard 101 keyboard? Do you have Raildriver? if yes does it work?

Take care,
Rich S.

Yes, I have a standard keyboard and it involves the default installation of TS. I have not yet installed any addon. I do however, have tried both a patched and unpatched copy of TS.

Go to OPTIONS and make sure SIMPLE CONTROLS box is unchecked.

Tried it in both checked and unchecked state, but unfortunately, it doesn't help... :-(

Try setting the compatibility to win 98 and install using the administrator option.

When you are in the game, do the F keys ( Track Mon, HUD, etc ) function properly? Do the number keys ( views ) work ok? Is it only the cabview control ( brakes, throttle, etc ) keys that don't function? Are steam, diesel, & electric units affected?
Some things to check:
1. If a cordless keyboard, have you changed the battery lately.
2. Open some .cvf files and look at non-digital controls, line should read Mouse ( 1 ) not Mouse ( 0 ).
3. In the main directory open the GLOBAL folder and delete or rename startup.mpg . The KUJU startup screen has caused other problems, but I haven't heard of it affecting the keyboard.
4. While in the Global folder, open files that end with .txt and be sure they have text in them.

Your problem sounds more like a Vista setting isn't right, but I can't help you with that.

You sir, have just made my day. It worked! Renaming the startup.mpg file solved the problem. Unbelievable that a simple video file could cause such odd problems, though.

Thanks to all of you for trying to help out. I really appreciate it. :)
