For some reasons someone is quoting 'old news'.
I do not see any reference to new content......

It would be nice to read sometimes ...
Those are screens of long defunct MSTS 2, developed by Kuju.
And description is of original MSTS. Who writes those news anyway? Idiots?

Nice screens... I'm going for MSTS 2... Railsimulator is already a fallen simulator for me becaus it will be exactly the same as MSTS 1 and only with some better graphics!
I hope this game will having some more Realism also. Atleast I got the time to finnish my last MSTS projects... dont think it will be on the marked this year :)

Before you guys all get too excited, note the disclaimer at the bottom of each shot! "In game visual quality Prototype". In other words art renders for what they hope the sim will look like. While I think they have a good platform to develop on with the FSX Engine, art renders, tend to look better than final actual in game screenshots. So while in the end, they will probably look good, they may not be as good as what your seeing now!!

yes, But Railsim aint realy a simulater also... its so basic. the only thing u can do is drive a train and nothing more! its just the same as MSTS did. Even trainz is more realistic in all ways then Railsim is, so I'm hoping on MSTS 2 to bring the realsim as it should be. This team can make realy realistic Filghsims, so I amsume trainsim 2 wont be a problem ;)for them too.

For all you know so can be this game, especially given it's official sequel to original MSTS. There's no way to tell what it's going to be like in operation, all you get to see from these pictures is well, "better graphics"...
Speaking of which, these screens are either 'visual quality prototypes' or 'asset renders'. For reality check, see the wallpapers on RailSimulator page, and compare to their more recent teaser movie. These wallpapers were 'visual prototypes' and 'asset renders' too.

The one wheel looks like it is turned sideways. Not good for a railroad.

Bobbie,
What is it that you want KRS to do beyond MSTS? It will have a working turntable, people that move in and out of passenger cars, and other animated functions that can't be done with MSTS. To say it is just the same as MSTS is has to be a big understatement. As far as saying Microsoft making the trainsim work because they have a flightsim that works is also a big understatement. Every train in MSTS and I am sure the same will be with KRS is affected by the power, mass, track inclination, radius of curves, and weather.
Kuju has all the experience in that field and much has been improved over the years by individuals working with MSTS and who have teamed up with Kuju to help make the KRS simulator much better. While Microsoft is the owner of MSTS, I have a feeling that many of the copywrite portions of the coding for MSTS resides with Kuju which would mean that Microsoft has to go back to square one. I am sure that their are several leaders in the MSTS community who are working with Microsoft as well.
Kuju has promised ongoing support for KRS for the future of the game and they have made it easy for third party content to be added--will Microsoft be willing to do that? I doubt it. They gave very lousy support for MSTS neither in house nor by contract with Kuju.
Still, I hope they do produce a very good simulator. It will be good to have competition to keep the cost of addons down. Payware prices have gone through the roof in the past year. Where as you used to get 6-8 engines for around $12.00 someplaces are charging almost that much for one.

Bob,
You ever played the Protrain Perfect Add-ons for trainz 2006?.. then you know what a real trainsimulator is! untill now the Protrain Perfect add-ons are the only true Paywhere trainsim add-ons. Everything is so realistic to drive, not like MSTS is and KRS will be.
you need to handle everything at there: start the train, Security systems etc. KRS won't have that.. and thats why KRS ian't more than a remake of MSTS for me. But I hope MSTS 2 will have that kind of systems and thats way i'm not gonna waste my money on KRS and wait for MSTS 2 first.
the only thing I still like about MSTS is the route editor but the rest not. Since i played those PTP add-ons, they are much more fun and realism to play.
I hope u got my point now WHY i won't buy KRS and wait for MSTS 2 first ;)

One small point to clarify - the images of Johnstown are actually in-game. They are not renders. Some of the art objects are not of finished quality, but they aren't meant to be at this early point.
These images are still meant to be a visual prototype, but the clarfication is worth noting.

Hello Rick,
I guess in a round about way you've answered one of my questions :) We now know one of the routes in MSTS2 is going to be the Ex-PRR Middle Division. And judging by the screen shots I'm guessing in the NS era?
Take care,
Rich S.

Hi Rich !
Being a global train simmer it does not really matter to me what routes or rolling stock will be featured by any of the new train simulators.
What does matter is that all of it works and looks better than in MSTS and even KRS, from front couplers to what MSTSBin has been able to achieve and beyond, adding many new functions, repeatedly asked for by train simmers, is bug free and supplies reasonably easy to use editors for activities and building routes !
The graphics will obviously be superb and will hope fully represent real world scenery as displayed by FSX and many other top games !
Waiting to see a close-up of their first in-game switch ! :7
Take care, O t t o.

I've reported this elsewhere, and it bears repeating here - I'm pleased to confirm that the front coupler ALREADY WORKS on the locos we have in the new sim!
One major milestone we can all cross off the list.... :-)

Rick,
I think you're going to have to put that as the first item in the features list on the packaging to have any hope of the majority of the community here buying your product. This may even deserve a big gold stick-on medallion saying "Featuring working front couplers!" on the front of the box.

I stand corrected, and thanks for the clarification! Looks like Aces is going to have a real winner if the end product can retain the quality of these shots without it becoming a slide show, and the physics and the rest of the aspects of railroading (Ie: Signaling, switching, AI dispatching etc...) is fairly accurately modeled. Also I see the plan is a worldwide railroad network, and not just a collection of individual routes. Based on the way FSX scenery engine works, I assumed and was hoping this would be the case. This now makes it possible to have transcontinental runs!!
Thanks
Tom
