Hmm, looking at FSX; Ground & Air AI Traffic ~ Pretty Darn Good. Weather ~ Outstanding. Lighting ~ Outstanding. Immersive Environment ~ Outstanding. Realism ~ 95 to 99% real. Physics ~ beyond outstanding. ATC ~ Getting there.
The aircraft physics when Realism set to full, make the aircraft harder to handle than in real life, due in part to the fact that you can't sense / feel the plane as you would in real life (no turbulence vibration, no wind shear / rollercoaster feeling in the stomach!)
I can see farther in FSX than I can in Real life, hmm, those FSX Crystal Skies... no pollution, and here I mean light and dust pollution, and not City Pollution. ~ How I long for that depth of view, that you just don't get in the real world, ~in FSX it is breathtaking at times.
So what hasn't FSX got in the out-of-the-box package.... Hmm... Editors! No Panel Editor; No Airport Editor; No .Air File Editor; No Approach Editor; No Effects Editor; No AI Traffic Editor, and very difficult to read and understand SDK's...
So, to the MSTS2 Developement Team, what do we have in store with regard to the Editors that will be shipped with the game. It would be of great interest to all of us MSTS1 Simmers... I for one, often tweaked & poked around at the .eng/.wag files, and used the Terrain Editor to improve the look, appearance, and function of the Loco's and rail network / routes / signalling. (This was at times very interesting, and fun, much like fiddling with my model railway loco's).
Looking at how interested FSX & MSTS1 Simmers are in improving / tweaking FSX & MSTS1 ~ to push the boundaries and improve the simmulators, beyond what comes in the box, turns it into a true hobby.
So the easier, quicker, and more detailed the Editors are, the greater the enjoyment there is in the creation of scenery / rolling stock & add-ons, and the greater the experience of the sim.
And now a bit of Railway Trivia... From 'The Guiness book of railway facts and feats'
The Longest Train in Africa:
The heaviest and longest train, with the largest number of wagons
recorded, was run on the 3'6" gauge Sishen to Saldanha railwayline in South Africa on 26-27 August 1989 by South African Railways/Spoornet (SAR). The train consisted of 660 wagons each loaded to 105 tons(metric) gross, a tank car and a caboose (guards van). The train was moved by nine 50kv electric and seven diesel electric Locomotives (16 in total) distributed along the train. The train was 7.3km (4.5miles) long and weighed 69393 tons, excluding locomotives. It travelled 861km (535 miles). It took 4.3 miles to bring the train to a stop at its destination.
& The longest train in Australia:
Length: 7.353 KM - No. of cars: 682 - No. of Locomotives: 8 diesel/electric - Company: BHP Iron Ore - Location: Port Hedland, Australia - Length of trip: 275 KM - 171 Miles Date of trip: June 21 2001
South Africa's is the most impressive for four reasons: Narrow Gauge, Weight, Distance traveled, and Gradient. Australia's was on a near to flat grade.
