Hi Otto

I downloaded the file and found there is another zip within it with the same name and my winzip will not extract it and goes into error.

How do I get this to work?

thanks and regards

Probably a mistake, I just now downloaded and unzipped, altho the zip within the zip isn't corrupted on mine and it will extract. After extracting the second zip I found it appears to be just a copy of the zip outside the zip that the zip is in, well anyway just ignore it and run the routesetup.exe and it should work. Looks like Otto added some of that custom weather to it, gotta go see what that looks like now. Let us know if it installs okay.

Sorry guys, I should have noticed the too large size of the ZIP ! :(

Corrected ZIP now uploaded !

Yes, Jim, Tom's weather, which stays the same throughout running a scenario, is definitively an improvement and hope the he can find a way to add some nice moving white fluffy clouds too ! :)

I have ghe North American Version of Rail Simulator, and downloaded the Metro Route from Otto's link, hit the install execute, and installed in the Rail Simulaor program file location.

When I try to play the route, there are no scenarios available other than free play and when I select that it crashes Rail Simulator.

RSDL tells me the US version and European versions are "compatible", but as near as I can tell any route or scenario created with one version won't work on the other version unless you buy the route that's "default" to the other version but not yours. That includes this one, delete the scenarios.bin file and scenarios folder (which uses trainsets from the York Newcastle route which you don't have) and the route still won't be complete, since it includes track and bridges from the York Newcastle route which you also don't have with the US only version.

This route and the PO&N route were created with the European version and won't work correctly on the US version unless you buy the missing European route. Since the US and European versions are "compatible", now that I have both, future versions will use objects and trainsets from Cajon Pass, so anyone on either side of the Atlantic will need the actual compatible version of railsim, meaning both of the routes that are "default" to each different "compatible" version. No, I don't get it either, gonna have to ask RSDL.

How do I uninstall it? I deleted the folder from the contents > routes folder, but the route name still shows up as an available route in the sim.

Railsim is starting to look like Barbie Doll stuff, hey? Well, the patch might fix this but they forgot to include anything to delete routes or scenarios. For now, freeware utility;

http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualtrains/downloads.html

Scroll down to

RS_Tools (The Missing Bits)

Download and install that, will delete routes and/or scenarios.

FYI, that \Rail Simulator\Content\routes.xml file (what the hell were they thinking) is the master list that shows which routes are available, and since it needs to be altered every time a route or scenario is added or removed, it's a good idea to make periodic backups of that file since sooner or later it's bound to implode.

Thought I had a bright idea about making my own, modified, Cajon pass, so I tried creating a new route from the Cajon Pass Route, copied the contents of the Cajon Pass route to the new routes folder, and then tried to play around editing the route. RS crashed every time I tried to open it.

I deleted the makeshift route from my hard drive and, when I restarted RS, the route was still listed. I opened the Routes.XML file and found the entry for the now defunct route, deleted that information, and everything is back the way it was before I got so foolish.

Each route has a listing in Routes.XML that starts with the line "<cRouteProperties d:id="XXXXXXXXX">" ( substituting munbers for the string of X's) and ending with the line "</cRouteProperties>". There is a "<displayname>" that will tell you the name of the route so that the wrong one doesn't get wiped out.

Don't know if that makes any sense or if it will help anyone but, thought I'd throw it in here.

Craig

Very nice. After deleting the Scenario folder and creating a new Free Roam I finally got it to work. Thanks, keep upgrading it, make it as big as you possibly can. Maybe after they release the DEV-Tools for US version I can create real Scenarios for it other than Free Roam.
