I'd follow suit here, but I just got a notice from PhotoBucket I'm about to exceed my bandwidth and get all my pics turned off unless I cough up 25 buckazoids. Guess I need to scrape the rust off the Glock and stick up a gas station or something. :eek:

Shoot me an email, need a lab rat to test Mike's newest installation contraption anyway, you can beta test the SD40 and Dugan's boxcar. Fatware factor is driving me crazy (well, crazier), 2.8 megs just for textures, but I guess if you're gonna have high detail you gotta live with the megabytes. I can send up to 10 megs per attachment, can you take that much?

Just in case you get yourself arrested, Jim, I saved all your important threads on my hd. So don't worry, it will all still be there when you get out! ;)

All the best

Burghard :)

Long as you got it all saved make a book and sell it, help pay the bail money so I can skip town. :D Hee-hee, 25 bucks for photobucket, need a couple hundred more to upgrade my RAM and stop stuttering, $400 buck heating bill this month and it just got colder. 30 to 45 below zero wind chills tonight and tomorrow, somebody tell Al Gore to hurry up with that global warming. :mad: Well, use up some of Nels' bandwidth;

Wizard of OZ is adding a trainset packeruppper thingamy to his Kibbles&Bits gadget, so I should be able to upload this in a few days.

Just got the same message. Guess I'd better start saving some of this to HD.
So where do we send the check?

BTW, a couple of shots of your RSDL.

It was when looking at your post I saw the message about Photo Bucket.

Hee-hee, just looked at another thread, got the bandwidth busted thingy where all the pics were now. Such is life, won't have the dough to go pro until July at least, so that's that. Playing with repaints here, let's see, how do I work this new forum image thing I keep forgetting.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1090&stc=1&d=1201711885

Still figuring out what maps where on these things, and of course the cloning process is nuts, all too often I place a reskin and get two couplers hanging in midair with nothing between cuz I screwed up the path to the texture.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1091&stc=1&d=1201711894

Got this oversaturation thing on the sunlit side, if you think your texture is too dark, darken it some more. This almost looks like that cruddy Zeta yellow the C&NW used for a few years. :rolleyes: Well, fire up the compressor and fill the sprayers, back to work! :cool:

yea doing these reapints is not an easy thing with all the apparent auto mapped parts.

Hee-hee, mapping is a little weird, the folder and file structure and lighting is what I have the most trouble with. Hiccup when I'm trying to hackup, got paint splattered all over the monitor, now I'm looking at an SD40 with half British HST paint on it. :eek: Still trying to figure this out;

<Name d:type="cDeltaString">RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2\CNWsd40\Engine\Textures\Def2_SD_40_1_colb</Name>

Lemmee see if I got this straight, the texture file has a path and filename inside so it knows where to find itself? :confused: I've been changing just the path and leaving the filename alone, cuz I get the missing textures when I try to change the internal and external filenames to something else. Not really sure it's actually necessary to change the path, but there are so many different files involved that when I clone something and get the original skin instead of my reskin it's hard to tell where I went wrong. I DID manage to change the color of the numbers from UP red to C&NW (or PO&N, same thing) yellow, and also change which numbers get displayed, but I can't find which file controls where on the model the numbers go or how big they are. For the C&NW they really belong on the side of the body, not the cab, but since I can't figure out how to change that I just fudged by dropping the C&NW "bar & bell" logo down lower.

Lighting is also weird;

Top is ingame, bottom is what the actual texture looks like, guess the trick is the darker the better or something. Anyway, this went out along with Mike Simpson's latest experimental idiot proof installer, emailed to some expendable trainsimmers. If any of them survive I'll start writing FileID.diz and readme stuff, start packing and uploading stuff.

the numbers are actually prt of the mesh itself so the only way to change the location would be to move those polygons.

Got this oversaturation thing on the sunlit side

Doesn't help that the hood seems to have a polygon that is slightly off center from the rest of the hood side, creating a triangular shadow down the model.

PO&N is an equal opportunity employer, meaning I gotta hire all comers without discriminating. Can't very well have blind people driving the trains, so I put them all in the paint shop. :cool:

Actually I think what you're looking at is the dynamic shadows, which as mentioned before aren't dark enough, but they do move dynamically as the train moves.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1228&stc=1&d=1202249454

Shadow of the cab on the hood, also note the shadow of the hood on the catwalk, along with the stanchions and handrails. Pretty realistic effect moving according to the light angle, don't seem to have much impact on framerates either near as I can tell.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1229&stc=1&d=1202249461

Sort of an umbra and penumbra here, light from the side leaves the top of the hood shaded, with darker shade from the cab roof shadow and whatever that thing above the headlights is (looks like a gascap, couldn't be) also casts a shadow.

http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1230&stc=1&d=1202249469

Trying to figure out the source from some shadows is wierd sometimes, like I say they ain't perfect, but the overall effect ain't too shabby. :D

So how did the PO&N get the cat dog symbol from Nickelodeon and where did the PO&N get its name???

Cadman (Kevin Shea, the guy the coal mine was named after) made the first reskin for MSTS PO&N, which was also the first repaint for a fictional route. He was a BN fan so it was basically a BN skin with "PO&N" on the side. Later he came up with the CatDog logo, perfect for a route that chases its own tail and don't know whether it's coming or going half the time! :D I'm a C&NW fan, so after Cadman disappeared the colors gradually migrated from BN green and black to a more C&NW green and yellow, altho I liked the CatDog logo so much it's lived on to this day. Colors and paint schemes are rarely consistent due to the three blind mice in the paint shop who generally get more paint on each other than on the model.

As for where the name came from, that's in the route description, originally one of the best "bookshelf" style model railroad trackplans by Lin Westcott.

BTW, Wisconsin Central SD40 is in the file library now, did you get it yet? :cool:
