A few shots of a free roam scenario featuring BNSF power pulling a doublestack consist.
I built the consist baretable and then used the container loading animation to load the cars one by one. Pretty cool.

Good shots! Has anyone noticed how big those doublestack containers are? Man they are huge! Look at the ES4400 compared to those containers
 They should not be that big.

I've never seen them in real life, but apparently those "high cube" containers have been around for several years now.

The ones in the picture you linked were not nearly as big as the ones in RS. There are no such thing as "high cube" containers. There are only high cube boxcars. Doublestack containers are high, but not that high!

I never saw them either, but I don't really care for intermodals so I never really paid attention before.

Lots of pictures here http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/40foothcdryvans.htm
which can be compared to standard height containers here http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/40footdryvans.htm
Notice the height difference of double stacked high cubes in front of double stacked standard containers here http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/images/sinotrans40.jpg
In this one you can see the standard container in the center of the pic compared to a high cube on the far right side of the pic http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/images/mmm/mofu6719060.jpg
Notice the labels on the upper right of this Terra Transport container from Newfoundland, Canada identifying it as a high cube here http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/images/mmm/ttwu201103.jpg

Took this picture in a cross country trip, two months ago.
It is at extreme distance, so the zoom was maxxed. I think you can see the height relationship pretty well, though.

This image should provide for some interesting discussion.
Here is a Rail Sim BNSF ES4400 with a high stack behind it next to my photo. I sized the container heights so they were pretty close to the same height and drew lines to see where the heights fell on the locos..
Game camera FOV is set to 65 in case anybody is interested.
However, note the difference in the container lengths. Note also the relative size difference in the container cars and loco.
I think the reason the containers look so high is because they are short in length compared to the real thing. Their height matches almost perfectly with the real thing. Car lengths seem not correct, maybe camera thing with the game??

i dont know i see some misplaced lines there. for one they are not straight... just comparing to the locos the containers are very high. the correct location of your line is running somewhat under the lowest corners of the nose, thats almost in the middle of the stripes on the hood. but where you drew them they clearly run through the windows.

Nope, the photo is scaled larger than the RS image. The lines mean nothing. Notic in the photo that the level of the top of the loco is about half way up the upper comtainer. In the RS screenshot, the top of the loco is only about 1/4 of the way up the top container.
The containers in RS are just plain too tall, that's all. Standard ISO containers are 8 ft wide by 8 ft high. That makes them SQUARE on the ends. It is plain to see that the container ends in RS are RECTANGULAR and higher than they are wide. While "hi-cube" containers do exist, they are rare and they DON'T double stack them.

Well, I've never seen a kangaroo in real life, that proves they don't exist. :D

Alright DJT1,

The man says they don't doublestack high cubes, so you faked that picture!
"Standard ISO containers are 8 ft wide by 8 ft high. That makes them SQUARE on the ends."
That's what I thought too, but research shows they're 8 by 8 1/2 feet, high cubes THAT I KNOW OF (and until recently I didn't know they existed at all) are 8 by 9 1/2 feet. So let's measure these and see what they are!
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1206&stc=1&d=1202154610
6.812 from the ground to the top, converting from heathen furriner meters to real money by multiplying times 3.3, comes out to 22.4796, a few inches over 11 feet high for each. The other ones that came with the UK version (I have both, standard containers are the same in the UK version) measure out to about 8 by 8 1/2, these high cubes are 8 1/2 wide and 11 feet high. The well car, BTW, is about 67 feet long, high cube doublestack on the well car is a bit over 24 feet high.
In conclusion (harrumph harrumph), I'm not gonna stick my neck out and say these ARE out of scale, cuz it's possible there actually ARE 8 1/2 by 11 foot containers now in one of them far away galaxies like California.

Like I said in the first place, THE DAMN CONTAINERS ARE TOO BIG! Just an observation guys.

Well, a month ago I would have said there's no such thing as a 9 1/2 foot high container, I subsequently found out they DO exist, so I'm not willing to say there's no such thing as an 11 foot container now since they might have made one when I wasn't looking. Just for the hell of it I set up a row of European container cranes and one US container crane to see what it looked like:
http://forums.flightsim.com/vbts/attachment.php?attachmentid=1208&stc=1&d=1202171047
11 foot doublestacks look too big, standard 8 1/2 foot single looks too small (almost like the well car swallowed the little brat), so some "just right" mods are obviously needed. Mike Simpson cloned and modded one of the European intermodal cranes to load logs instead of containers (see the PO&N route in the file library), which also look funny in the well cars, so some standard flats are also needed. But the crane itself can be cloned and modded to load something else, all that's needed after that is a standard sized doublestack object to go with it and we'll have something that looks more "normal". Again, I don't really care that much, to me intermodal trains are about as interesting as watching a bunch of trucks on the highway. :p
