'ay, 'oo you calling a 'ore? Hmmm, post in the screenshot forum with no screenshot, but since there's no request forum this is probably the closest thing. Gotta spell it out tho, to a Brit "WC" is "Water Closet" AKA a "LOO" as in "why does this silly Yank want a toilet for railsim?" :D Obscure little short lived route, I never heard of the Wisconsin Central until after it was gone (I'm from Chicago, moved up here to God's Country just a couple years ago), and I suspect most people wouldn't know about the "WC" either if they ain't Packer Backers (Go BEARS! :p ). I'd be willing to take a shot at it if someone wants to provide pics, I only saw a couple of real WC engines since the Canucks took over long before I moved up here. But I suspect some of the MSTS Cheeseheads will be along shortly to do better skins for the WC than I could ever make. :cool:

Unless the project interests me, that is! :D Well, I'll give it a shot, got nothing better to do while I await the famous Update mark 1 to see what kind of damage I can do in the route editor with that. :cool: One problem is the TLAR (That Looks About Right) effect, I can pretty much eyeball a C&NW repaint and say "darker green" or whatever since I've been looking at those colors all my life, WC is new to me and seems to vary from red to purple with various shades of maroon between.

Probably have something by tomorrow that won't look very good (I'm not much of an artiste anyway :o ), no guarantees it won't get pulled a week later if the patch fixes the light saturation effect. Trouble there is you gotta darken the textures until they look black, then they're washed out in the game due to the lighting. :confused:

This one in particular;

Paint out the handrails and clone the one side and mirror it, best way to get that upside down pine tree or whatever it is reasonably accurate. :cool: Sides of the cab will be wrong, I can either move the logo down so the dynamic numbers don't cover it, or go thru that process BN1970 did to remove the dynamic numbers, either way gonna take some fudging.
EDIT: Just noticed, gotta move the logo down on the nose too, this thing don't have upper headlights.

Hee-hee, this is gonna take longer than I thought, maybe I better scrap this and start over with the BNSF skin so I can figure out where the cab roof is. Needs a bit more red in that purple as well! :rolleyes:

Well, Three Blind Mice Paintworks (Motto: "It looks okay to us!") has finished and uploaded a "good enough for Cheeseheads" repaint, and I fought hard and managed to resist the temptation to paste a Chicago Bears logo on it. :D Had to do a little cleanup after my assistants finished;

But I think the end result is good enough for now.

Deano ever gets tired of playing paleontologist with the fossilized bones of that other trainsim we'll eventually see some GOOD WC stuff. :cool:

This is really starting to look like the early days of MSTS. I wonder if these'll look stellar in seven years, too!

Just took a look, in the file library now, get it while it's lukewarm. :cool:
Yeah, early days of MSTS were a little like this, "ace file? What is an ace file, I thought that was an alternative to Winzip?" MakeAce didn't work correctly half the time even if you were an old DOS dinosaur who knew how to make a bat file to add command line %1 variables to it, so there was no easy way to reskin until TGAtool came out. Here we have Mike Simpson's RStoolsTMB to convert the TgPcDx texture files back and forth to DDS, problem I have is nothing that reads DDS directly, the Nvidia plugins for PSP ain't working for me. I gotta do a three step process opening the converted DDS in DXTBmp and sending that to PSP-7. I suspect that's where a lot of my blocky pixels are coming from, too many conversions and uncompression and recompression.
What I'm thinking here is if I spam the library with enough halfassed blotchy pink and purple bcdef repaints, some of the people with some actual talent will get off their lazy cabooses and upload some GOOD repaints, then I can quit and go back to making routes. :cool:

Ah, yes. I was there...sort of. I even remember when the Empire State Express was still freeware! Of course, I was a complete N00B at the time...I hate to admit it, but as Uncle Charlie...I didn't even have MSTS. (Ashamed)
I'm really looking forward to what's gonna happen once we get going, here, and what's gonna happen once MSTS-X comes out...that's gonna be a whole new can of worms...

Jim,
with all do respect...you a very damn good route builder, the PO&N is a classic gem to run.
But your theory of flooding the library may actually backfire. If train-simmers see enough of these half-ass paint jobs for KRS by someone of your nature status, they may feel this is the best of KRS and stay away. Even MSTS took some time to develop with route builders, shape builders, painters, eng file modifiying, and all sorts of talent.

Hee-hee, got YOU in here, didn't it? BTW, wasn't paying attention, did the Packers win the superbowl? :D I dunno, Dean, I think it's possible these guys have already shot themselves in the foot so many times they're gonna bleed to death anyway. There's time yet with MSTS 2 being delayed over and over again, but the patch that just came out needs a patch so they got some work to do. I don't work for them so it don't really matter to me one way or the other, if MSTS XXX finally does come out and looks like less of a pain I'll happily make that jump just like I made this one. Who knows, maybe they'll get most of the loose screws tightened down, and some actual talent will look at my stuff and say "huh, I can do better than that in my sleep", then I can go back to playing with trains and let everyone else do all the work! :p So now YOU got a challenge, let's see YOU make a better WC repaint for KRS than mine! Hee-hee, except you gotta actually buy the game first! :cool:
